The Girl’s Circumsicion in Islam

Thesis : Girl’s circumcision also known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is the ritual removal of

some or all of the external female genitalia. Typically carried out by a traditional circumciser using a

blade or razor (with or without anesthesia). It has been debated for a long time due to so many case

about false woman circumcision. For example the African’s ritual of woman’s circumcision which

cause the suffering of woman. Another case of woman circumcision also happen in Bandung, which is

done on adult. This topic has been the controversial issue for a long time. The procedures differ

according to the ethnic group. They include removal of the clitoral hood and clitoral glans (the visible

part of the clitoris), removal of the inner labia and, in the most severe form (known as infibulation),

removal of the inner and outer labia and closure of the vulva. For Islamic group, the part of vagina

which is circumcised is the clitoral hood. The method of woman has been taught by Al-Mawardi

The way to circumcise the woman by cutting the skin on vagina above the penis penetration place

and ureter, on the pole like seed. Only taken the skin without taken the pole.

Pros : Although it is still debatable the woman circumcision has some benefits. They are:

1. It is one of Prophet Muhammad’ Sunna and by doing it, the husband will be happier. As

derived from Anas bin Malik hadith about woman circumcision

اخفضي، وال تـنهكي، فإنه أنضر للوجه، وأحظى عند الزوج

When you circumcised the woman, cut it little, and don’t cut it too much bcause it will make

the face happier and can give happiness for husband

2. It can help the woman to control the lust. According to ulama’, by cutting some of clitoral

hood, it can help the woman controlling the lust. There are so many cases i.e. Europe, the

women have the big lust because they didn’t circumcise. And some of the case also come from

the third world countries which practice about the full circumcision in woman genitalia and

they are unable to feel pleasure when doing sex.

Cons : There are also the cons about the Female Genital Mutilation. They are:

1. Many citizens think that Girl’s circumcision can cause reproduction organs problem. For

example the malpractice about some circumcision that remove most of the clitoris. It is still

practiced in Africa by removing the clitoris and also removing most part of vagina including

labia major and labia minor.

2. The women still afraid of the circumcision because they think by doing it, they will lose their

lust in doing sexual activity. Because according to some Health Department, because of

malpractice of circumcision, the women lose their desire in doing sex.

Conc- : Although there are many cons about girl’s circumcision, circumcision for girls is good for their

healthy and make their reproduction organ saver. It also prevent the women from having uncontrolled

lust.
