Aspects of the romantic
movement: The Romantic age is a term used to describe life
and literature in England in the 18th. And early
19th. Century.
The Romantic writers placed the individual, ratherthan society at the center of their vision. They
tended to be optimists who believed in thepossibility of progress and improvement.

The Romantic writers generally saw humanity as naturally good,
but corruption and goverment.
The French Revolution gave life and breath to the dreams ofsome Romantic writers for a society in which there would beliberty and equality for all.
The most significant aspects of 19th. Century English life was theslow but steady application of the principales of democracy.
The Romantic movement flourished in the early 19th. Century inthe poetry of Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley and
Keats.

Common
features of the romantic poets: The romantics cultivated imaginative freedom;
Used a variety of poetic forms;
Tended to express the feelings of man in solitude asopposed to those of man in society;
All the poets, except Blake, described the naturalenvironment;
They tended to use language with more freedom andinformality than the 18th century poets;

They were profoundly affected by the great historical
fact of the French Revolution; The romantic poets were deeply interested both in life

The most interesting poems were about writingpoetry;
Some of the features of the romantic poetry:
a. loose forms
