W17As / W14As / W440A
W17As
W440A
W14As
W17As, W14As and W440A are
equipped with specially designed
custom transducers operating in
complete synergy with the
dedicated electronic circuitry.
The bass section utilizes a high
efficiency woofer - 15” in W17As,
12” in W14As and W440A - with
lightweight neodymium magnet
assemblies, capable of delivering an
exceptionally accurate and detailed
high-impact sound.
In models W17As and W14As the
mid-high section is equipped with a
constant directivity horn (dispersion
60° H x 40° V) - integrated in the
shape of the cabinet - coupled to a
1.4” compression driver (titanium
diaphragm, 2.5” voice coil).
In model W440A the mid-high
section is equipped with a constant
directivity horn (dispersion 90° H
x 70° V) - integrated in the shape
of the cabinet - coupled to a 1”
compression driver (2” voice coil).
The electronics integrated in each
of the three systems includes:
- 2, class AB, Mosfet amplifiers,
each one fitted with our exclusive
loudspeaker protections and a
soft-start circuit to reduce the peak
current drain at switch-on.
In models W17As and W14As
the two on-board power amplifiers
deliver a total output power of
600 W divided into 450 W for the
bass section and 150 W for the
mid/high section.
In model W440A the two
on-board power amplifiers deliver
a total output power of
400 W divided into 300 W for the
bass section and 100 W for the
mid/high section.
- 2 active dynamic processors,
optimise the specific features of
each component and provide direct
control of the operation of the
systems, ensuring a constantly flat
frequency response. They feature
independent time constants (and
operating thresholds that are
sensitive to line voltage) and limit
any excessive voice coil movement
under the most demanding
operating conditions.
Unimpeded operation is guaranteed
even when the system is subjected
to extreme line voltage excursions.
- a high slope active electronic
crossover (24dB/oct. Linkwitz-Riley)
guaranteeing phase coherency and
perfect overlapping of acoustic
emissions of the transducers in the
crossover region.
In the situations requiring an
extension of the low frequency
range, W17As, W14As and W440A
combine perfectly with the
Montarbo active subwoofers all
with built-in stereo electronic
cross-over.
The passive versions W17P and
W440P utilize the same
custom components of the active
versions.

crossover (24dB/oct. Linkwitz-Riley)
guaranteeing phase coherency and
perfect overlapping of acoustic
emissions of the transducers in the
crossover region.
In the situations requiring an
extension of the low frequency
range, T15A and T12A combine
perfectly with the Montarbo active
subwoofers all with built-in stereo
electronic cross-over.
Model T18A features an extended
low-frequency response which
eliminates the need for subwoofers,
in the majority of cases.
The bass sections of the three
systems T18A, T15A and T12A
utilize high-efficiency woofers
(18”, 15” and 12” respectively)

MP6 - EFFECTS DESCRIPTION
FAST ECHO Is basically a very short slap-back delay.
SLOW ECHO Again, but with longer delay times, hence a more ‘spacious’ flavor to it.
SMALL HALO A digital ‘clone’ of the effect built in the Montarbo reverb units of the sixties, a vintage classic that never went out of fashion.
LARGE HALO Again the previous effect, but slightly more ‘open’.
PING PONG Basically an auto-panned delay, popular on many rock hits, the samples are being routed alternatively to full left and full right master.
REVERSE REVERB Unmistakably a ‘must’ of many 80’s records, starts at low level, builds up and quits abruptly. Usually served with percussion.
EARLY REFLECTIONS Generates the initial part of the reverb without the decaying ‘tail’ of the effect. It makes for thicker and more aggressive sound without increasing its decay time. Usually it is used to colour vocals or horns solos in contemporary productions.
ROOM REVERB The typical short reverb, great with percussions.
HALL REVERB Simulates a much bigger space, as the name implies.
VOICE REVERB Specially tailored to support and enrich the lead vocals.
FAST ECHO + REVERB A fast, short slap-back delay combined to a reverb in a vocal oriented patch.
SLOW ECHO + REVERB Similar to the previous program, but with a longer delay time. It thus plays ‘slower’ and with longer samples.
PITCH CHANGE Alters the pitch in real time.
DUAL PITCH CHANGE A real ‘harmonizing’ effect capable to add two further voices to a monophonic source, panned full left and full right.
DETUNE 1 Slightly alters the source tuning to simulate a ‘doubling’ effect.
DETUNE 2 It is great with guitars, similar to a Chorus effect, but sometimes even more effective.

It was back in the early Fifties that Montarbo’s founder Sergio Montanari
started building his first amplification systems under the trade name of
Super MB. The Montarbo trademark and logo, the same ones you still find
on today’s products, were designed and introduced in 1962.
The Company was able to quickly build up a solid reputation thanks to
a very special product, a piece of equipment that was so innovative and
unique that it made the firm famous throughout Italy and the rest of the
world: a six-channel powered mixer incorporating a 100W power amplifier
and a magnetic memory echo unit into a portable metal case (featuring
lids that doubled as supports when opened). A groundbreaking Montarbo
patent, this magnetic memory echo unit required no cleaning or
maintenance as it had completely eliminated the problem of mechanical
friction – unlike the tape-based echo units common at that time.
In 1965 Montarbo introduced the world’s first active loudspeaker.
Prior to this pioneering effort, no other company had ever considered
placing an amplifier right inside a loudspeaker cabinet. Shortly thereafter,
the Company came out with the first quadraphonic mixers and the first
bass amplifiers with separate head units.
With the increasing popularity of rock music during the Sixties, concerts
and venues required more powerful sound reinforcement systems to
cope with ever-larger audiences. Montarbo led in this field and went on
to develop many innovative designs and patented products.
During the Eighties it was one of the first manufacturers to develop
software-assisted effects processors.
Its current catalogue selection ranges from economically designed MI
products to cutting-edge professional technology. Whatever the features or
the price range, all Montarbo products are absolutely ‘professional-grade’,
state-of-the-art equipment built to stand up to years and years
of hard use and abuse.
Tradition and research constitute the basis of the Company’s philosophy,
and its original goal has remained the same: it is totally committed to
ensuring the complete satisfaction of musicians, sound technicians and
touring bands.
That’s why Montarbo’s products are inspired by a design philosophy that
emphasizes lightness and compactness; and that’s why they will never
compromise on sonic quality, reliability or ease of use.
Our commitment to sound and your passion for music merge in these
innovative products.
