Academic Vocabulary Unit 1

Vocabulary Complete a Circle Map for each of the academic vocabulary words. You may use the dictionary definition, which is listed after each vocabulary word, as one of your six categories.

Selection 1

analyze: To analyze means to break down information into parts to understand it better.

arrange: To arrange means to put things in a certain order. explain: When you explain an idea, you make it clear so people can understand it.

Selection 2 compare: When you compare two things, you think about how they are alike and

different.

collect: To collect means to get from two or more different places.

Selection 3 context: Context refers to the parts nearby that help explain the meaning. topic: A topic is the subject of a piece of writing or of a discussion.
