“The English language is nobody’s special property.

It is the property ofthe imagination: it isthe property of thelanguage itself”

Derek Walcott

We are extremely proud to be accredited bythe British Council, and ensure all our Englishteachers are qualified to CELTA/TEFL level orequivalent.

English classes take place on weekday mornings, with students receiving 3.5 hours’ academic tuition per day and informal tuitionthroughout the day.

Students attend Windermere International Summer School from all over the world and willbe mixing with British students who are onother holiday courses. To benefit fully from our programme, we recommend students haveknowledge of English to at least an elementarylevel.

Upon arrival, students take a placement test toensure they are placed in a class of the rightability level.

Teachers plan lessons covering a huge range of topics, from home and food to the environment and agriculture. We use manyteaching techniques during our lessons to ensure students improve their four main language skills: reading, writing, speaking andlistening.

Throughout the course, we run academic workshops where teachers gauge student comprehension and adapt the syllabus accordingly to focus on the specific needs ofeach student.

Many of the lessons will tie into the activitiesand excursions giving a fully immersive approach to learning.

Windermere International Summer School hasits own RYA (Royal Yachting Association) sailingcentre on the shores of Lake Windermere. Weare the only School in Britain with ChampionshipClub status.

Students will have 10 mornings of sailing on eachcourse and will work towards an RYA qualification.

Wetsuits, Waterproof jackets and buoyancyaids are provided.

The courses are suitable for beginners to intermediate sailors.

In the afternoons they will join the studentsfrom the English classes for a variety of activities.
