Day One - Thursday October 8, 2020

The Big Day is finally here! Your group arrives at the Toronto Pearson International Airport 3 hours prior to departure to check in for your flight.

Depart on your overnight flight to London!

Day Two - Friday October 9, 2020

Arrive at London! After clearing Immigration and Passport Control, collect your luggage and clear Customs. You will be greeted at the Arrivals Hall by your Tour Leader, and will board your locally chartered motor coach for your transfer in to the city centre.

Today and tomorrow you will be commuting like true Londoners! Via public transit with your 2- Day Metro Pass, zone 1-4; you can use the Tube or see the city from a Double-Decker bus.

Borough MarketHaving its roots as a wholesale fruit and vegetable market in medieval times, Borough Market moved to its current location under the railroad tracks in Southwark in 1756. Now one of the coolest places to shop for food, and to eat, you will find it at the foot of London Bridge, in the shadow of the Shard.

The Tower of London (Self-guided Visit)A visit to the terrific Tower of London, which for much of its 900 year history was an object of fear. Today, you can see the famous ravens - fortune says that if the ravens leave the Tower, the Kingdom will fall; the magnificent Crown Jewels; and follow one of the Beefeaters on a tour of the grounds. (subject to availability upon arrival)

Self-Guided visit at the Imperial War MuseumLearn about the impact of war on peoples' lives; both at the front and at home. Massive tanks, artillery and bombs are on show, along with displays about food rationing, air raids and censorship.

Enjoy some free time in Covent Garden. Once a fruit and vegetable market surrounded by decaying warehouses and streets, this area is completely revitalized; filled with restaurants, theatres, shops and street performers.

Ghent AltarpieceVisit St Bavo Cathedral and view the Ghent Altarpiece. The Ghent Altarpiece is a very large and complex 15th-century polyptych altarpiece. It is attributed to the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck, who were Early Flemish painters. A masterpiece of European art, The Mystic Lamb is considered one of the world's treasures.

Langemark German CemeteryVisit the Germany Cemetery at Langemark.

Saint-Julien Canadian MemorialMake a stop at the Saint-Julien Canadian Memorial, an impressive 11 metre statue of a brooding soldier, commemorating the heroic resistance of the Canadian army during World War I.

Visit Tyne Cot British CemeteryThe largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world, Tyne Cot British Cemetery holds the 11,952 tombstones of the soldiers from the UK who lost their lives during the First World War.

Walk along Grote Markt Street and make a stop at the famous Leonidas chocolate shop. Because you can't visit Belgium without tasting chocolate! (at individual expense)

Collect the wreath that you will place during the Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate.

Attend the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin GatePay your respects to those who fell while protecting their town by laying a wreath. Listen while the bugles play a moving tribute.

Visit Essex Farm CemeteryPrepare for a very moving experience as you visit Essex Farm. Located at the John McCrae Memorial site, this is where over 1200 soldier were buried after losing their lives during the Second Battle of Ypres.

Canadian National Vimy Memorial (Self-Guided visit)Canada's most impressive tribute overseas to those Canadians who fought and gave their lives in the First World War is the majestic and inspiring Canadian National Vimy Memorial. Vimy Ridge was the site of the most notable victory in Canada's military history. The façade of white stone holds the 11,425 names of Canadian soldiers who died or disappeared during the battles between 1914 and 1918. Visit the trenches, tour the tunnel and the monument. > N.B. Subject to availability, tour the trenches with a Canadian guide. This must be booked upon arrival and is not possible to pre-book.

Visit Hill 70See the newly erected monument to the Canadian Soldiers who won the victory at Hill 70, mere months after the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Wellington Quarry (Self-guided Visit)Welcome to the Wellington Quarry. Discover one of the most secret military places and the underground tunnels where thousands of British and Dominion soldiers lived during the build up to the battle of Arras in April 1917. The Wellington Quarry was named for the city of Wellington, New Zealand, in honour of the New Zealand troops who dug the tunnels. These newly built tunnels joined up with tunnels and quarries dating as far back as Roman times.

Beaumont-Hamel Memorial (Self-guided Visit)Explore the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial, dedicated in commemoration of the Dominion of Newfoundland forces members who were killed during World War I, and more specifically on July 1, 1916, during the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel.

Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in the heart of the city.

Visit the Canadian War Memorial Park in DieppeLocated in Square du Canada, the monument here features the names of people and events linking Canada and Normandy, as well as a plaque commemorating the Dieppe Raid.

Caen Memorial VisitThis site, dedicated to peace and reconciliation, deciphers and explains in an interactive manner, the events that led to the Second World War, and the consequences it has had on the world we know today.

Day Eight - Thursday October 15, 2020

Visit Ardenne AbbeyYour day starts at the Ardenne Abbey, dating from the 12th century. Your Tour Leader will share details of the tragic events that happened here on June 7th, 1944, when 20 Canadian soldiers were executed by the Germans, on the day following D-Day.

Make a short stop in the Village of Villons. Discover "Hell's Corner" as your Tour Leader explains why it was so named by the Canadian troops.

Visit the Canadian Military Cemetery in Bény-sur-MerPay your respects as you visit this cemetery, containing the remains of predominantly Canadian soldier killed during the early stages of the Battle of Normandy. Bény-sur-Mer was created as a permanent resting place for Canadian soldiers who had been temporarily interred in smaller plots close to where they fell.

Visit Gold Beach in Arromanches-les-Bains, located in the centre of the D-Day landing zone. This man-made harbour witnessed the arrival of no less than 400,000 men, 4 million tons of material and 500,000 vehicles, in a span of only 100 days.

Canada HouseYour steps will then lead you to the small village of Bernières, where you will discover Canada House or Maison des Canadiens, a classic timber-framed house, occupied during the war by a German officer and which was among the first to be liberated by the Canadians on June 6th, 1944.

Juno Beach Centre VisitExplore the Juno Beach Centre, the only Canadian museum in Normandy. It is here to commemorate the contributions and sacrifices of Canadian soldiers during the liberation of Europe in World War II. Follow your local guide and discover Juno Park and the remnants of a German defensive strong point, part of the famous Atlantic Wall.

Immerse yourself in the D-Day battles as you explore the underground bunker next to the Juno Beach Centre. This visit will provide a better understanding of a German Command Post, tunnel and Observation Post.

Visit the Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux (with audio guides)Discover the tale of the conquest of England in 1066 by William, Duke of Normandy, depicted in a 70 metre long embroidery. Remarkably well preserved, the Bayeux Tapestry features on UNESCO's "Memory of the World" Register.

Dinner tonight is at the Bistro Régent. Bon appétit!

Shop for lunch at Versailles' Notre Dame Market!Upon arrival at Versailles, make a stop of the Notre Dame indoor market, where you will not only feel the vibe of an authentic French market, but will also find all you need for today's picnic lunch! Choose the breads, cheeses and fruits that inspire you the most! (at individual expense)

Guided Tour of the Palace of VersaillesMeet your local tour guide at the group entrance and enjoy a 2 hour guided tour of the Palace of the Sun King. You will marvel at the Hall of Mirrors, the private apartments of the King and Queen, and the Queen's bedroom.

You cannot visit Versailles without exploring its magnificent gardens. At your leisure, you will discover the splendid creations of Le Nôtre dating from the reign of Louis XIV. Walk along the Grand Canal, admiring the many fountains, sculptures and statues. Note: access to the Jardin Musicaux and Grandes Eaux Musicales is not included.

Discover le Pont Neuf, one of the oldest bridges in Paris; stroll past the Conciergerie, where Marie Antoinette spent her last hours and wander to the Square du Vert-Galant for an amazing view of the Louvre.

Visit the Eiffel TowerThere’s so much to see and do at the Eiffel Tower! This most famous landmark of Paris is a marvel of modern engineering. Those feeling daring can take the elevator to the third level and look down over the Parisian landscape from a bird's eye view. You'll definitely enjoy this visit which will have you soaring high up in the sky.

The Brightspark team is committed to the safety and security of all passengers on our tours. We believe educational travel is an important part of the student learning experience and will positively impact a child for the rest of their life. While we recognize that travelling comes with an inherent risk, our entire team is committed to ensure all who participate on a Brightspark tour are safe throughout the trip.

In 40+ years of operational experience, travelling with 33,000+ students per year, we have had no major incidents. Situations do arise on the road, but our 24/7 emergency response team is available to assist with any unforeseen circumstances in a timely manner.

Our Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are maintained through our three step process: Risk Mitigation, Advanced Safety Training and Crisis Management.

RISK MITIGATION

Brightspark works diligently to provide peace-of-mind travel for students, parents, and teachers, allowing everyone to fully enjoy an inspiring travel experience.

Our Brightspark Health and Safety Manual (available at

the Board level) represents the foundation of our commitment to

client safety with policies and procedures outlined for each

component of our tours.

Our Service Level Agreements with suppliers are reviewed and agreed upon yearly to ensure they comply with our safety

standards.

Annual site inspections of all major hotels, transportation and

attractions are completed by Brightspark staff to verify the required levels are being met.

ADVANCED SAFETY TRAINING

Health and safety standards are reviewed annually by senior

management team.

Every Brightspark employee participates in annual crisis

management training including scenario-based decision making.

Our Tour Leaders are trained to deal with everything from a minor

incident to a major accident.

CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Our emergency response number is monitored 24 hours

by a trained staff. Our response team, with designated roles, are trained to deal with any type of

emergency.

Emergency contact information (hospitals, police) are provided to our Tour Leaders on every tour, in

any destination.

Our team will also assist parents initiate an insurance claim in the

event of an injury.
