The Foundation apprenticeship in Engineering is a great way to get hands-on experience and also gain a qualification at the same level as a Higher. You will have the unique chance to develop skills and knowledge across a range of engineering topics in a classroom, alongside valuable experience of the engineering industry.

Who is the Foundation Apprenticeship for?

What are the entry requirements?

For pupils staying on at school

Study alongside Nationals/

Highers

Starts in S5

Last 2 years S5/S6

The Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering is for pupils who are about to move into S5 at school - you must still be at school to do this course.

It is a two year course that you undertake, alongside your school qualifications (Nationals and Highers), during S5 and S6.

Normally the Foundation Apprenticeship would be one of your subject choices for S5 and S6. The Foundation Apprenticeship is at the same level as a Higher.

You will probably be working towards achieving one or two Highers over S5 and S6 and your school will need to confirm that you are ready to study at Higher level.

You will need to have completed or be working towards at least National 5 in Maths and either Physics, Engineering Science or a Technical subject in S5 and predicted to pass these courses at C or above.
