We are pleased to announce and welcome Jill Clark as our Marketing Manager. Jill comes to Mainstay with over 10 years of marketing experience in the AEC industry.

Jill will be responsible for developing new marketing content including presentations, news articles, qualifications, graphics, etc. She will assist in the development of winning proposals that support the company’s growth objectives by collaborating with the project team to ensure an on-time and high-quality submission.

Ryan M. Firkser, P.E., S.E.Mr. Firkser is a registered Professional and Structural Engineer who enjoys leveraging Mainstay’s foundation in structural engineering and overall building design to help clients achieve their maintenance and operational goals, and to solve their unique challenges. Mainstay’s mission has always been to bring value to the project team by utilizing a unique, multi disciplined thought approach, and Ryan utilizes that philosophy into realized results for owners outside of the conventional structural engineer scope.

His first professional passion was structural engineering but he has realized that his true calling is answering the following question: How can Mainstay’s expertise make your facility better?

Outside of the office, Ryan is all about family, fishing and Philly sports. Although he hasn’t had much free time to fish since his two daughters were born – call him if there is an open spot on the boat for your next fishing trip.

We are pleased to announce that we are relocating our New Jersey office from our current location in Somerset to Cherry Hill. Structural Project Manager, Ryan M. Firkser, will head up our new location. We look forward to continuing to serve our clients from our new location!

FEATURED PROJECTPfizer – cGMP Transportable Pod Manufactured by G-CON Manufacturing, Inc., College Station, TX

Mainstay was tasked with the structural design of a two story transportable structure comprised of six individual aluminum structures that are at least 12 feet wide and 42 feet long (approximately the size of a shipping container) that can be assembled, disassembled, moved, and transported to another site for the purposes of creating an independent clean Good Manufacturing Practice facility for Pfizer to house heavy, functioning, and vibration sensitive pharmaceutical equipment in an active process that can be installed within an existing parent facility.

The aluminum structures contained several complex hurdles as part of the general requirements of the structure, including:• Each individual pod required to withstand the loads associated with transporting, lifting and maneuvering of the pods as if they were shipping containers.• Each individual pod contained pressurized air bearings that allowed for maneuvering of the pods (with their heavy contents) over a finished concrete surface with the ease

of a finger push.• Upper and lower pods were stackable requiring additional lifting mechanisms of the upper pods to elevate over the lower pods. Once the upper pods were locked in place,

the lower pods needed to be moveable into their corresponding mate and final position.• Male / female extruded connections allowed for the locking of adjacent pods to effectively seal the pods together for cGMP requirements.• Because the pods may be transported anywhere in the world, they were designed to satisfy any location with a seismic design category D or lower.• The six pods all had to interconnect with each other and a heavy equipment skid.

Incorporating a mobile structure into Pfizer’s facility management plan gives them the flexibility of mobilizing a complete manufacturing operation to a different part of the country or world within a relatively short time frame, and with little re-commissioning and revalidation of the facility. This ultimately provides a significant cost and time savings for Pfizer.
