HISTORY

Today’s VISPIRON ROTEC GmbH was established as Rotec GmbH in Munich in 1988 to provide specialised testing systems for automotive development. The company has become a leading provider of equipment used for measuring the noise and vibration of engines and transmissions with a global reputation for excellence in noise and vibration testing. Continuous and innovative product development combined with intensive cooperation with customers underpins our success.

Torsional vibrations are mechanical vibrations caused by time-alternating torques which are superimposed on the otherwise steady running speed of a rotating shaft. VISPIRON ROTEC o� ers particular expertise in torsional vibration measurement and analysis with more than 25 years experience in this area. A wide range of testing products has evolved over the years which concentrate on the subject of torsional vibration.

MEASUREMENT BOARDS

ROTEC RAS measurement boards cover a broad range of multichannel testing applications.The trigger board provides the central time base for all measurement channels. This board enables comprehensive triggering of measurements and also contains analogue and digital outputs for test-cell integration.The dual channel rotational speed board operates with a 10GHz digital counter and allows for direct input of TTL pulse train signals. Triggering on both rising and / or falling edge is possible, as well as detection of pulse width modulation.

DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEMS

VISPIRON ROTEC’s main product is the Rotation Analysis System (RAS). ROTEC RAS signal acquisition and analysis systems combine the advantages of PC-based frontend data acquisition with additional data logging capabilities. Modular architecture and versatile software make the equipment suitable for a wide range of testing and signal

acquisition tasks. Depending on applications and testing requirements, a ROTEC RAS system may be used as an autonomous logger or as a frontend connected to a personal computer via Ethernet. ROTEC RAS chassis have been optimally designed for both stationary test-stand based applications and mobile in-vehicle applications.

Successful testing requires a careful choice of measurement equipment in order to ensure full functionality throughout the entire test session. VISPIRON covers the full measurement chain, starting from sensor

systems for measuring rotational speed, via data acquisition hardware to a versatile software package for both measurement and analysis.

The 3-channel analogue board has 24-bit resolution with 50kHz sampling rate per channel. As an alternative VISPIRON ROTEC o� ers a dual-channel analogue board with sampling rates up to 3.2MHz.The eight channel temperature board is suitable for input of signals provided by Pt100 RTDs as well as various types of thermocouples. Break-out boxes are available for connection to the temperature sensors.A board for acquisition and decoding of digital bus data such as CAN, OBD-II and FlexRay may also be fi tted.A strain gauge board will complete the system.DATA ANALYSIS

SENSOR SYSTEMS

Torsional vibration measurement requires detection of the times of occurrence of equally spaced angular positions around a rotating shaft. The three most common methods are:

1) scanning a toothed wheel with a magnetic proximity sensor to generate a pulse each time a tooth passes the sensor

2) refl ecting a laser light source o� lined tape attached to the shaft

3) mounting a magnetic or optical incremental encoder onto the shaft

SOFTWARE

ROTEC RAS software provides the user with an easy-to-use, fl exible and powerful tool for data acquisition, analysis and reporting. Data may be analysed and displayed online as a function of time, angle or rotational speed before being saved to hard disk for further detailed analysis. FFT methods are used when converting from the time to the frequency and order domains. The common time base of all measurement channels ensures reliable cross-channel evaluation of signals. There are many add-on options to the basic software that address

particular types of measurement and analysis. These include:

ROTEC RAS software has been continuously developed, enhanced and updated for more than 25 years.

VISPIRON ROTEC o� ers robust and reliable sensor systems for each of these three methods. The sensor electronics output angular velocity signals in the form of TTL pulse trains. Deciding to use a particular sensor depends on the application, physical constraints in applying the sensor as well as the required accuracy and resolution.

VISPIRON ROTEC calibration services are traceable to international standards and help the customer comply with quality assurance systems such as ISO 9001.Software maintenance contracts give the customer access to the latest software enhancements, improved functionality and bug fi xing.
