Allegheny Engineered Wood Floors If you’ve ever researched engineered floors vs. solid wood floors online, I’m sure you’ve seen blog post after blog post telling you that engineered wood floors are a better option than solid. In many general cases, this is true, but at Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring we specialize in Rift & Quarter Sawn and Live Sawn boards that make for an unbeatable solid flooring option. Most sawmills and flooring companies do not offer rift and quarter sawn, and therefor are unable to offer the added benefits of the natural stability of a solid wood floor. At AMHF, we Engineered Wood Floors Call 724-867-9441 501 Main Street, Emlenton, PA 16373 www.hickmanwoods.com typically recommend a solid wood option, but must admit, we are purists. There are occasions when engineered is the best option. It’s best to rely on a National Wood Flooring Certified Installer to look over your specific situation and use their judgement. There is a wide range of prices and quality of engineered hardwoods on the market. When comparing our product with other engineered products, you aren’t often comparing apples to apples.

What makes Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring Engineered unique • Allegheny engineered flooring is made using real

wood.

• Allegheny engineered is 100% made in the USA. •

• Allegheny Engineered is made using the same 4/4” lumber from Hickman Lumber that is used for our solid flooring.

• Instead of sending 4/4 lumber through the moulder, it is sliced in 3 or 4 veneers.

• The top layer of wood (Veneer) is glued on the 11 layers (3/4”) & 9 layers (5/8”) of the highest quality Baltic Birch plywood using environmentally friendly, no added formaldehyde, low VOC adhesive that complies with the most rigid regulations of VOC limits anywhere in the country.

• We offer 3/4” or 5/8” engineered with a 4mm wear layer.

• Our 3/4” engineered has the option of 6mm wear layer.

• Our wear layer is comparable to a solid. It can be sanded and refinished multiple times.

• After installation, one cannot tell the difference between our solid or engineered.

• Our engineered will almost always be more expensive than solid.

• We offer lengths of 2’-12’ or 2’-10’. •

• Select & Better is the highest grade we can offer in engineered.

• We cannot offer 100% Rift only in engineered. We can offer Rift according to NOFMA standards which is 75%.

• Engineered is recommended over concrete and/or below grade.

• However, new adhesives are being developed, guaranteeing gluing a solid over concrete.

Many carpeting companies and box stores try to promote engineered floors as if it is a bullet proof option for wood flooring. At AMHF we believe our solid rift & quarter and live sawn floors provide the benefits of stability like that of engineered but without the risk of the glue failing. Our nearly 20 years of experience in hardwood flooring, and strong relationships with our installers across the country, makes us very confident in our solid wood flooring. However, if you or your builder/installer feels more confident in engineered options for your floors, Allegheny Mountain can offer the highest quality engineered flooring for your home.
