Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) has been remarkably

succeeded in shipbuilding since company’s inception in

1973, providing a solid foundation and facilitating Hyundai’s

expansion into various fields of heavy industries such as

engines, machinery, industrial plants, offshore facilities,

electrical equipment, industrial pumps, industrial robots,

and construction equipments. The Engine & Machinery

Division of HHI (HHI-EMD) is the world’s largest diesel

engine manufacturer for marine and stationary purposes.

HHI-EMD has been rated as the world’s top diesel engine

manufacturer since 1988, occupying up to 35% of the world

market share of diesel engines.

Ever since HHI-EMD successfully completed 153 MW-

class engine power plants in Korea, it has expanded its

capabilities in the power sector and filled a key role in

the global power market by completing quality engine

power plants around the world as an EPC contractor.

HHI-EMD successfully completed 97 MW engine power

plants in Malaysia, 291 MW engine power plants in

India, 60 MW engine power plants in Mauritius, a 60 MW

engine power plant in Barbados and 134 MW engine

power plants in Mexico. HHI-EMD delivered 1,894 engines

for DPP and PPS purpose equivalent to 5,114 MW at

234 sites in 51 countries. Utilizing its vast experience

acquired in constructing stationary power plants, HHI-

EMD has developed the Packaged Power Station using

HiMSEN engines for captive power such as those used in

factories, shopping malls, hotels, rental businesses and so

on. The Packaged Power Station, a result of HHI’s creative

and technological prowess, will bring contentment to

previously unsatisfied power customers. With renewed

pride and enthusiasm, HHI-EMD takes on the challenges

of the future, sparing no effort to complete quality power

plants in the best interests of its valuable customers.

The GMR Vasavi power plant is the

world’s largest engine power plant,

possessing a nominal capacity of 200

MW with four units of Hyundai-MAN

B&W low speed diesel generating

sets. This power plant is equipped

with a sewage treatment system

having a capacity of 7,200 ton/day

for environmental purposes. This

power plant is designed to provide

troublefree parallel operations with

the existing 110 kV grid facilities of the

TNEB (Tamil Nadu Electricity Board)

system. It supplies the main source of

electric power to the area of Chennai

under Hyundai ’s Operat ion and

Maintenance (O&M) services.
