ELECTROLYTIC CORROSIONWHAT IS IT?

If you've noticed corrosion on the metal parts of your boat located below the waterline, you are the victim of "galvanic corrosion". The scientific term "electrolytic" or "galvanic" corrosion describes the type of corrosion that anodes are intended to absorb. This corrosion is normally caused by different metals being near each other in salt water. This destructive process is caused by electrolysis, an electric current set up between the metal parts of your boat, with salt water as the electrolyte. We see the eating away on shafts, propellers, rudders, and other fittings and drive parts under the salt water. The results are unattractive, affect operating performance, and cause excessive mainten-ance of hull, propellers, engine, accessories and fittings. Some metals react more actively than others and will be eaten up first. This activeness is the reason that a steel fitting can corrode away while a brass one next to it will not. Both these parts could be protected, however, by a properly installed Martyr activated alloy anode. The Martyr anode will be eaten away and the steel and brass fittings will be untouched. The sacrificing action of the anode is the reason it is called a sacrificial anode, and the source of the name "Martyr".

WHY USE "MARTYR" ANODE PROTECTION?

Martyr anodes are made from an "activated alloy"; an alloy in which catalysts have been added to the high purity zinc to ensure that the anode gives 100% of itself in the purpose of protecting your boat from corrosive action.

HOW DOES MARTYR PROTECT? The metal used in a sacrificial anode is critical. If the anode fails to give itself completely to absorbing the corrosive activity, it cannot protect the parts of your boat that you want it to. The two most important things that allow an anode to give full protection are proper installation and an active alloy that is free of impurities.

A three anode box is shown. This will typically handle two engine heat exchangers and a generator. Unlike conventional zinc anodes, SecureCore Anodes are made from a versatile aluminum alloy that is more active, lasts longer and is suitable for all types of water. Using eco-friendly aluminum anodes in place of zinc also helps to decrease pollution. Although sacrificial anodes are needed to protect engines and heat exchangers against corrosion, loose pieces of a worn anode can cause a lot of damage. To prevent this, Performance Metals' SecureCore Pencil Anodes have a central steel core that secures the anode material until consumed. SecureCore anodes also feature a stainless steel plug for better performance and longer life.

Maintenance is easy with SecureCore anodes when used with the patented Intelligent Anode Detector Box. An internal probe detects when the anode has corroded to the point where it no longer provides proper protection. The Intelligent Anode™ will communicate with the Detector Box & will alarm by both an audible and visual signal.

Flush contaminants from your lower unit and cooling systems. Quickly removes salt and mineral build up with a simple flush that slips over side water inlets on most inboard and outboard lower units. Installs in seconds using a garden hose.

Drain check valve allows collected oil to be returned to the crankcase. This eliminates frequent draining and significantly reduces oil consumption. CCV Units are designed to handle crankcase flow rates up to 40 CFM. (Rated horse power ÷ 40 = cubic feet per minute (CFM)). This formula is a guide, newer efficient engines have lower blow-by, a worn engine can have double the flow rate. Typical filter change is 750 hours.

These Residential Grade compact spiral chambered mufflers have an all MIG welded construction. They have a steel wool and mesh liner providing premium silencing with low back pressure. The connections are standard Slip-Fit. These models are available in a Carbon Steel with a high-temperature black finish or 316 Stainless Steel.

SYSTEM #2LACED-ON ALUMINIZED CLOTHThe laced-on covering uses an aluminized fiberglass cloth cover which is assembled to the fiberglass blanket by crimped-on stain-less steel lacing hooks and washers. These covers are then held in place by wire lacings. Straight pipe runs are easily treated with this system, but complex shapes generally require greater time and effort to achieve a good fit. 60" wide.

Both systems require the High Temp Fiberglass Base to be applied first. The fiberglass base is ordered separately.

Average coverage for Mastik with single coat is 50 sq. ft per gallon.
