Engen Xtreme Team amped for Killarney The Engen Xtreme Team arrives at Killarney for the penultimate round of the Wesbank Super Series after a solid outing at Zwartkops at the end of August. Newest member to the Engen Xtreme team is rookie Mandla Mdakane who came through Engen’s Karting development programme – Engen Supa Karts. Mdakane currently in 20th place in the championship category, raced in mid field in both heats of Polo’s and although determined to get upfront, a challenging day’s racing at Zwartkops saw the Gauteng driver finish 27th overall for the day. Engen continue their support for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and specifically, it’s world renowned Burns Unit. Contributing R150 for every championship point the Xtreme race team earn during the season, the present fundraising drive after the Zwartkops race stands at R 87 150. The Port Elizabeth-based Stephen defending champion who currently leads the Bridgestone Production category by 24 points over, Hennie Groenewald will be making sure he keep his lead over the Subaru driver. Stephen’s engineering and consistency of drive saw him take overall top honours for the day and extend his championship lead for the season. Stephen will be joined on the starting grid by fellow Engen Xtreme driver Tschops Sipuka, who has now moved up on the championship ladder into 5th position. This was due to his impressive performance at Zwartkops with his never say die approach and come from behind skill rewarded the pervious double national champion with a third place, joining his teammate on the podium for the end of the day celebrations. On the Volkswagen Cup front, with Engen Xtreme Polo Driver, Kosie Weyers unable to compete due to a race ban as a result of a racing incident at the Phakisa race meeting earlier this month, the team called on young Simon Moss to fill the driver seat for the day.
