An autobiographical documentary film on Caterina Erica Shanta’s life as seen through her father’s and stepfather’s photographic lenses, both sharing the passion for the picture camera and the military life who has taken them around the world. This is a micro-story (according to Carlo Ginzburg) on Caterina’s family, but connected to History, from the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 to the second Gulf War.

All pictures in the film comes from Caterina Erica Shanta’s private family archive.

1943-45 Venice. The Second World War in Venice. This is a documentary film about the institutional cinematographic industry in the Salò’s Republic which was transferred from Cinecittà in Rome to the Biennale Pavillions in Venice for two years. Venice was declared a “safe city” as it was studded with antiaircra shelter and isolated from the mainland.Improductive institutional cinematographic industry, reinforced concrete ruins in Venice and old pictures, shows the fall of the fascist regime through the imag- es that we can see today. A story about a city which becomes cause of refleection on beauty and its manipulation.

This film is composed by “stolen images” found on the internet and selected according to Georges Didi-Hubermann’s thesis on Images malgré tout. The necessity to show what happened during war became a physical demonstration of an original precarious condition. This process is visible on images surface, most in low quality, destabilized, full of errors as a symptomatic condition of their local cause.Palmyra’s story, the Syrian city definitely blown down from war, is visible through the dissolution of its images which progressively had lost their quality standard as a symptomatic demonstration of power subversion.

A short story about silence and the challenges of storytelling. It’s an incomplete ad uncertain travel. The complexity of the story catches us unprepared on human feelings, with an impossibility to speak about them without suspending our judgment. The film starts from an interview done to two last former “IMI - Italian soldier prisoners” of the Germans concentration camps, who still live in Cadore (a region on the Dolomites Mountains in North Italy).Their story starts at the beginning of the Second World War, when they were enlisted in the Italian Fascist Army and sent to the colonies and to the military front in Europe - Greece and Russia. But, as Italian soldiers, they were loyal to the king Vittorio Emanuele and not to Mussolini, who was only a minister. After the Armistice with the allies called by General Badoglio and the fall of the fascist regime, Mussolini escaped in the North of Italy and founded the “Italian Social Republic of Salò”.  In this moment all the Italian soldiers, who didn’t accept to not swear to Mussolini or the Nazis, were captured and sent to the Lagers: there are more about 650.000 people counted, but numbers are still uncertain.

This film was inspired by the reading of “We, Sons of Eichmann: An Open Letter to Klaus Eichmann” by Gunther An-ders, written in 1964All film’s shootings were made in Pieve di Cadore, at Montericco Fort (Belluno, Italy). Black and White photos are from Guido Coletti’s personal archive.

Bird View is part of an installation triptyque, entitled “everyday matters, construction notes on contemporary images”. Bird view (a gaming landscape) is the first of three video about digital panoramas and virtual 3D spaces which char-acterize the human behavior in the material world. This work will explore contemporary image’s transmissions forms inside our daily routine which is completely mediated by digital devices.

Bird View (a gaming landscape) is a visual research trough bird’s point of view, using domestic toy-drones and video games which forms a different conception of three-dimensional digital and physical space. These kind of low-cost and remote-controlled devices are generators of galaxies of images uploaded by the users on internet and other platforms. This process transform the machine - or the “low cost user friendly device” - in a perfect trained and domes-ticated animal.

A man’s film portrait made through the personal objects that he left us and now completely silent. These objects are documents of his life and of a specific Italian period. I’ve started to reconstruct his taste, by analizing objects and ad-vertisement from a book founded in his home, composed by tv magazines published between 1961 and 1962.His life’s formative period occourred during the economical boom in Italy, when the family roles were redifined in new life standard: the perfect housewife and the man at work as a technological master. The 70’s femminist movement desmantled in part this social order. In this video I fillmed myself cleaning these objects, listening to old music and looking at old pictures and magazines.

“Il cielo stellato” is a documentary film project born in 2015 about the mediatic digitization of the secular rite of Ma-donna della Bruna in Matera, Basilicata. Matera’s “Sassi” was described by the ancient travellers as a starry sky because it was full of candles during the night. The rite consists in a long procession with a giant triumphal papier-maché chariot around the city and it is destroyed by all population in the middle of the main square at the end of the day.The film’s aim is to investigate how an oral culture change itself through a digital dubbing. I observed a proliferation of photocameras and smartphones over the people’s head: a second starry sky that records all the destruction phase of the rite.So I’ve decided to collect all these digital material and upload them into a software to develop a 3D point cloud photogrammetry of the chariot as a third starry sky. Originally, these kind of softwares were developped for digital archeological preservation purposes.
