The BCPVPA is now accepting nominations from Chapters for its annual Partnership Awards. The Awards recognize the valuable support provided to principals,
vice-principals, teachers and students by a variety of people and organizations who share their time, energy and expertise to support schools. The winners last year were Anne Mae Rae (nominated by the Vernon PVPA); Patty Lou Bryant representing the Food for Thought program (nominated by the Central Okanagan PVPA); Pastor Andy Sebanc representing Green Timbers Covenant Church, (nominated by the Surrey PVPA); and Mike Csoka and Donna Yates, founders of the Chilliwack Bowls of Hope Society, (nominated by the Chilliwack PVPA). Nominations must be submitted by Friday, April 3, 2015. The Awards will be presented at the May 2015 Chapter Council meeting.

Takeaways fromPrince George Happy New Year. I hope you had
a wonderful Christmas holiday and you are returning to your impor-tant work as principals and vice-prin-cipals with new energy and vigor. I wish you a year filled with happiness, health, prosperity, and a position on ‘the new grid.’
I had the good fortune of visiting the school leaders of SD57 Prince
George this week. I was able to visit four schools: Vanway Ele-mentary, Spruceland Traditional Elementary, Kelly Road Secondary, and College Heights Secondary. Even when schools share similar settings, I find that there are unique aspects to every learning community. I take away many ideas from my visits — and a deeper understanding of how school leaders help to forge the individual character of each community. Together with staff and parents, everyone works to support the best student learning. The cooperation and commitment speak to the leadership that each of you bring to your work. I use Twitter throughout my visits and I hope you follow both me (http://www.twitter.com/principalgli) and the Associa-tion (http://www.twitter.com/bcpvpa).
While in Prince George, I also had a conversation with Anne Smith, Principal, Heritage Elementary and Co-Chair of the CAP/BCPVPA Connecting Leaders conference (with Bruce Frith, Principal, Clare-mont Secondary, Saanich). I was reminded of this fantastic professional development opportunity in May. Not only are excellent internation-ally renowned speakers confirmed to be at the conference, but many BC educational leaders will also present breakouts. This is a wonderful opportunity for educational leaders from across the country to gather in beautiful Whistler to learn, laugh, and share. You will have the op-portunity to create networks that will support your work throughout your career. I encourage to make plans to attend. There is a list of ses-sions for this conference on page 1.
