Since this was my first Diocesan Convention I had no idea what to expect. But what I saw was the workings of the wider Church. Yes, the church is a place of worship but it is also a body with rules and business to conduct. I got to experience the elections, and hear the various reports. But the worship came before the business. It was a holy way to conduct business; opening with Evensong and closing with Holy Eucharist. Even though I know we are but one parish of many, seeing all these wonderful people, laity and clergy, from the various churches and how we all work together as the body of Christ was faith affirming. It has inspired me to go visit them. And yes, I grew up in Dyersburg but have never been to St. Mary’s! The hospitality they showed, all the hard work that was done to prepare and the hard work of making it run successfully was very much appreciated. I guess the bottom line is that I have a new appreciation of the Church and Her people. And it was a blessing to be there. -Debbie McCanless
