CHANGING THE CURRENT.™

It’s all about you.

You know us as your electric company. But we’re also part of your community, possibly your next-door neighbor or even your customer. I live and work here too. So, just like you, I want a better future for Florida. It’s that same hope that drives the thousands of us here at FPL to start each brand new day challenging ourselves to do things better for you and your business.

It means we’re changing standards by slashing our use of foreign oil and making

us more energy independent than ever before. It means changing our way of thinking by building more efficient and cleaner plants that run on American-made natural gas. It means changing the current, so tomorrow’s better for all of us.

We’ll never stop looking for ways to serve your business better. That’s my pledge to you. I invite you to visit www.FPL.com/ChangingTheCurrent to see more of what we’re doing for you.

Share tips with your seasonal customers We’re always here to help you save energy and money. Now, you can pay it forward. If you have customers who will soon be leaving Florida to return to their summer home, you can help them ease their worry while they’re away. Visit www.FPL.com/seasonal to download an Energy Saving Checklist just for seasonal residents and then share our tips on controlling mold and mildew, preparing for storms and much more.

Preventing outages from the ground up Good landscaping can make your business more inviting. But all it takes is one tree in the wrong spot and you may be inviting a nuisance.

That’s because tree limbs and branches, especially palm fronds, are among the most common causes of power outages and flickers. It’s why we trimmed trees and cleared vegetation along more than 15,000 miles of power lines in 2012, and our work to prevent outages never stops.

Our service reliability for customers is better than 99.98 percent, and you can help us keep it that way. Visit www.FPL.com/trees to learn more about our line-clearing program and what you can do to minimize the impact that trees have on the electrical lines serving your business.

Simple tips for vacant propertiesIf you own or manage a property with vacant space, we can help you protect it until it’s occupied again. Here are some top tips for preventing mold and saving energy:

» For programmable thermostats, set your A/C to run at 72 degrees for just two hours each morning before sunrise and at 88 degrees the rest of the time.

» Unplug or turn off the circuit breaker to the hot water heater.

» Turn off the main water valve unless you have an automatic fire-sprinkler system.

» Unplug appliances and electronics. For security reasons, you may want to place timers on indoor lamps.

» Make sure all smoke alarms are working and have fresh batteries.

We’re always working to keep electric rates affordable and show you ways to make your low bill even lower. Visit www.FPL.com/business for other ways to save.

Energy AnswersVisit www.FPL.com/bizenergyanswers to submit energy-related questions.

Q I have a picture window with a

southern exposure in the front of my business. The sun causes severe heat throughout the day. Is there a rebate available from FPL for having window tinting installed? If so, what is the procedure for applying for the rebate? – Joe T., Sarasota

A Your plan to defend your business against

the sun’s harsh rays is a wise one. Installing window tinting can go a long way toward conserving energy while making the inside of your business more comfortable for employees and customers. It can also save flooring, furniture and fabrics from an early demise due to fading.

To help you protect your property, we offer an incentive of up to $1 per square foot for select window treatments on qualifying sun-facing glass. Eligible treatment types include solar film, solar screens and high-efficiency window replacements.

Visit www.FPL.com/bizenergyanswers to learn about your next steps and to see if there are any other ways you can reduce energy costs and gain FPL rebates for your business.

When Florida’s businesses grow, it’s good for everyone. That’s why we offer specially discounted economic development rates for eligible companies that invest in our state and create jobs, like Martin Health System.

When its new medical facility opens in Port St. Lucie next year, it will be one of the largest economic development events in St. Lucie County’s history. Martin Health System’s Tradition Medical Center is slated to employ approximately 400 existing and new associates. FPL’s economic development rate will help the facility save tens of thousands of dollars off of electric bills in its first four years.

“It will help not only in reducing our cost of operations at Tradition Medical Center, but we’ll be able to reinvest those

savings into top quality health care,” said Mark Robitaille, Martin Health System president and CEO.

We are committed to helping Florida’s businesses thrive. Visit www.PoweringFlorida.com to learn about the economic development resources available for your business.

With more than a 100-year supply right within U.S. borders, natural gas is a resource that’s key to our energy independence. We use it every day to power your electricity because it’s cleaner, more affordable and made right here in America, something we can all feel good about.

While it’s a resource that’s plentiful throughout the U.S., there’s virtually no natural gas production here in Florida. That means before we can put natural gas to work for you, we need to bring it here from other parts of the country. The new underground pipeline we’re planning will help do that for years to come. Visit www.FPL.com/ChangingTheCurrent to learn more about plans to ensure Florida’s continued access to America’s natural fuel source.
