OKC Energy FC enters Saturday’s match after a successful 2015 season. Last time Energy FC saw Colorado Springs, they defeated the Switchbacks in the Western Conference Semifinals in dramatic fashion. With the game on the line, Energy FC won 4-3 in a penalty shootout to advance to the Western Conference Finals, where they were defeated by LA Galaxy ll.

Energy FC is returning 14 players and welcoming 7 new players, including Evans Frimpong, Kyle Hyland, Daniel Jackson, Cody Laurendi, Jacob Lissek, Tim Janssen, and CJ Cochran.

The OKC side trained and played three preseason matches at IMG Academy in Florida. Energy FC took on NYCFC of the MLS, Danish team HB Koge, and USL team Orlando City B, bringing a 2-1 record back to Oklahoma. The OKC team also played a friendly at Taft Stadium against MLS affiliate FC Dallas, in which Energy FC fell 2-1 in front of a sold out crowd. Early in the month of March, Energy FC traveled to Toyota Stadium and fell to FC Dallas 2-1. In their first matchup against another USL team in their conference, Energy FC tied with St. Louis FC 0-0. In their final preseason match of 2016, Energy FC played to a 1-1 draw with University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Colorado Springs comes to historic Taft Stadium with a 6-0 preseason record with wins over Air Force Academy, Real Colorado, Colorado State – Pueblo, Colorado University of Mines, and University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, and USL PDL side Ventura County Fusion.

IGNITING SUCCESS

Fields & Futures was founded in 2012 to help Olahoma City Public Schools grow student participation in sports by rebuilding or upgrading 44 athletic fields, providing improved resources for the district’s 265 coaches and creating new opportunities for students to join a team and benefit from that experience.

Tim McLaughlin, founder of Fields & Futures and co-owner of Energy FC, says, “Sports can be a powerful motivator for a young student. The opportunity to belong on a team and be mentored by a caring, empowered coach has shown to have a swift and measurable impact. With each new completed field, we see rosters grow and more kids smiling bigger, walking taller and working harder to stay on the team – reinforcing the link between athletics and the academic mission. We believe if they play, they stay and if they stay, they graduate.”

Fields completed include Jefferson MS, Webster MS, Capitol Hill HS and Taft MS, with NW Classen HS soon to follow. Construction is now underway at Star Spencer HS and Roosevelt MS, bringing the total to 20 new athletic fields (including seven new soccer fields), with 24 more to go. Once each complex is completed, Fields & Futures, in partnership with OKCPS Athletics, assumes responsibility for all field maintenance, ensuring each facility is well maintained long into the future.

To our Club, being a Green means that you’re part of some of the most passionate fans in the United States and that you help serve as the face of our great city and club. It means that you are part of a larger mission of helping unite and build support for soccer in this great city.

As a whole, by demonstrating the OKC Standard, we will create new Greens. And at the same time, reflect the heart of the entire community.

MLS Code of ConductActions that are unacceptable include, but are not limited, to:

Physical harm or threats of physical harm to others Disrespectful and/or hateful public speech (verbally or online) Leading, participating, and/or encouraging in inappropriate chants Throwing any objects onto the field of play during a match

Every Green should expect to: Watch the game in a safe, clean and healthy environment. Be treated in a courteous, consistent and professional manner. Be treated with dignity and respect by other spectators attending the game

and those organizing the event. “Passionately support” the Energy, provided that the support is in good

taste and neither adversely impacts the event experience of fellow spectators nor negatively impacts the game.

Displays of good sportsmanship. Timely and accurate information related to the game.

It is up to every fan to display what it means to be a Green and to utilize the OKC Standard and to ensure everyone does as well. If you see individuals acting in a way that violates the OKC Standard, please inform them and us of their unacceptable behavior. Everyone must be held accountable for their individual actions.

Slurs, derogatory language, physical harm and/or threats of physical harm towards anyone are completely unacceptable and will be dealt with in the strictest possible terms. Any Green who doesn’t demonstrate the OKC Standard, whether at home or on the road, is subject to sanctions, including ejection, banishment, and arrest.

Our Energy comes from how we band together as one club, one city. We know that if the Greens believe in passionately supporting the team and embodying the OKC Standard, we will clearly display this club and City’s greatness.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICYOKC Energy FC understands the games played outside are subject to changing weather conditions. OKC Energy FC games kick off at 7 p.m. and will be played as scheduled … rain or shine. If there are weather concerns, fans will be notified at the game and given choices about what their plan of action should be.

POSTMATCH AUTOGRAPHSFollowing the game, fans are permitted to make their way to the west side track for a 15-minute autograph session with the players. The players will retire to the locker room to stretch and re-hydrate. Following that period of time, the players will return to the pitch. The clock starts when the first player makes their way onto the pitch.

SOCCER OPERATIONS

Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen

OKC Energy FC introduced former Sporting KC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen as the team’s first head coach on December 20, 2013.

The 36-year old Nielsen completed his final game as a professional, serving as goalkeeper for Sporting KC in their win over Real Salt Lake in MLS Cup 2013 on December 7. A veteran of nearly 600 professional games, Nielsen brings a wealth of experience to his new position.

Nielsen began his professional career with hometown club AaB Aalborg in Denmark, helping the team to the 1999 Danish Superliga championship. After a brief stint at Leicester City in 2007, he transferred to Danish club Vejle, for whom he made 63 appearances over two years. He was named Danish Goalkeeper of the Year in 1998 and 2004, and also represented his country at the U-19 and U-21 levels.

In February 2010, Nielsen joined Major League Soccer and became the starting goalkeeper for Sporting Kansas City. As a member of Sporting KC, Nielsen was a two-time MLS All Star, the 2012 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, and goalkeeper for the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open championship club and the 2013 MLS Cup winning squad. He was named team captain prior to start of the 2012 season.

When Nielsen began his MLS career, he instantly became a fan favorite, whose signature bleach-blonde locks earned his the nickname “White Puma.” But it wasn’t just his play that endeared Nielsen to fans, though—it was his personality. He was known for stopping his car at local parks when driving by and joining in games with random children. Often, Nielsen would pull kids out of the crowd and have them kick balls at him as part of his pre-game warm-up.
