The seminar focused on the
landscape over the coming year
for international investors in
assessing and investing in
opportunities in the Energy
Sector in Europe (2016).
UK China
Speakers covered opportunities ranging from
conventional power generation, renewable energy
sources through to nuclear and network projects.
With major initiatives such as One Belt One Road
driving inbound investment into Europe, and in view
of the 2015 state visit of the Chinese President to the
UK, the seminar put special emphasis on the issues
for Chinese investments into Europe.

The Assembly, supported by
CBBC, identified and discussed
a range of key issues including
the future of Chinese oil and
gas, renewable energy in China,
outbound and inbound M&A and
A&D, and energy infrastructure

Over 300 delegates attended the Assembly
representing a variety of high profile companies and
organisations, such as Shell, the Asian Infrastructure
Investment Bank (AIIB), Sinopec, and Deloitte.

Topics included ‘The Golden Era’
of business and investment, how

investment into the UK’s
infrastructure (2016).
Over 1,000 delegates attended the Forum including
representatives of a range of CBBC member companies,
such as BAE Systems, Ernst & Young LLP, and
Heathrow Airport Limited.

This event is the largest

conference and exhibition in
China. CBBC and UKTI led a
delegation of companies to
participate in a series of
meetings and workshops based
around the event. (2016).

(Beijing)
Delegates had the opportunity to promote their
products, services and technologies at the UK
Pavilion.
Several hundred companies were represented
at the event and keynote speakers included
Steve Sawyer (Secretary General of the Global
Wind Energy Council) and Liu Qi (Deputy
General Manager at Shanghai Electric. Co.
Ltd).
May Offshore
wind
opportunities
in China and
Taiwan
(Aberdeen)
CBBC and UKTI organised this
event to highlight offshore wind
opportunities in China and
Taiwan. Participants examined a
range of topics including plans
and policies for offshore wind
projects in China and Taiwan and
opportunities for UK companies
to get involved (2016).
Speakers included Mike Hay (UKTI’s China Offshore
Wind Specialist) and Lynn Li MBE (UKTI’s Head of
Infrastructure, based in Taiwan).
Following President Xi’s State Visit, a UK-China
agreement on offshore wind collaboration was signed.
CBBC and UKTI will continue to work to maximise
China-UK cooperation in this area.

One Belt One Road (OBOR) - CBBC is working hard to place the UK at
the forefront of the OBOR initiative (1/3)
Belt and Road Summit (Hong Kong)
Working in partnership with BritCham Hong Kong, CBBC
Chief Executive Stephen Phillips participated in the
Summit in Hong Kong with a delegation of more than a
dozen UK companies. CBBC received a special
acknowledgement from the Summit and signed a
memorandum of understanding with HKTDC to further
cooperation between the two organisations (May 2016).
Over 1000 delegates attended the Summit including
representatives of CBBC members such as McKinsey &
Company, Standard Chartered Bank, Jardine Matheson
Holdings Limited, and John Swire & Sons.
Speakers included The Hon C Y Leung, GBM, GBS, JP
Chief Executive, Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region.
OBOR Seminar (Guangdong)
CBBC organised this Seminar with the Guangdong
International Chamber of Commerce. Panel discussions
were held between firms already working on Belt and
Road-related projects, including Arup, Atkins and Mott
MacDonald in the construction field, and Aviva-Cofco and
KPMG in professional services. Ninety people attended
the Seminar (June 2016).

One Belt One Road (OBOR) - CBBC is working hard to place the UK at
the forefront of the OBOR initiative (2/3)
Belt and Road Seminar (Xiamen)
CBBC cooperated with the Xiamen Bureau of Commerce
and the local branch of the China Council for the
Promotion of International Trade to host a seminar on the
Belt and Road initiative, at which CBBC's Belt and Road
Case Studies Report was officially launched in this region
(Sep 2016).
Speaking at the seminar, Tracy Cheng, vice-president of
London & Partners (a CBBC member company),
introduced the significant role London has to play in the
Belt and Road initiative.
After the seminar, a number of local entrepreneurs and
corporate representatives expressed an interest in
working with UK partners.
Partnership with the Hong Kong Infrastructure
Financing Facilitation Office (IFFO)
CBBC was delighted to announce its partnership with the
IFFO. The partnership is the product of shared common
interests and objectives to deepen HK-UK cooperation, the
two key markets where there is a depth of expertise and
potential to serve OBOR (Oct 2016).
CBBC and The IFFO are proud to forge stronger
relations in helping create opportunities for their
members in relation to OBOR.
Both parties expressed their intent to work together
towards their shared objectives over the coming
months and years.
