This is the brand that identifies the Tecnosteel products line specifically designed to achieve energy-efficient datacenters, even with high thermal loads. The concept of “Green Datacenter” is extending to all companies in which the growing demand for energy makes strictly necessary to optimize the costs related to it. The conditioning of datacenter requires an electricity amount which easily exceeds 30% of the Company consumption. It is a must to look for new solutions, both in terms of new equipments and architectural arrangement of data center.Tecnosteel, with the new brand Bladeshelter specifically developed for offering a whole solution and a complete range of products, has both a new conditioning system, the Tecnocooling, and an air containment structure, called Aisle Containment, with which is possible to have a safe separation between cold and hot air.

The Bladeshelter Aisle Containment allows to create a partitioning that separates the cold air from the hot air in a Datacenter room and prevents the possibility of mixing between the air flows at different temperatures and a consequent loss of efficiency in conditioning. The Bladeshelter Aisle Containment is a modular and scalable structure which can be applied to two batteries of opposing T7 cabinets possibly combined with Tecnocooling sides.Bladeshelter offers two standard configurations: distance between the doors of opposed cabinets 1000 mm and 1200 mm.The installation of the Aisle Containment does not require special modifications in the existing infrastructure of the room.

The AilsleContainment developed by Tecnosteel is a structure equipped with all the necessary accessories to ensure a perfect insulation of the internal space of the corridor and maintains the maximum separation between warm air and cold air.Special vertical profiles applied at the base of the cabinets, panels in plexyglas for covering the corridor and the special cable management system called BladeRunner ensure the achievement of maximum energy efficiency.

Bladeshelter Cold Aisle ContainmentIn the “Cold Aisle” cold air is confined within the closed structure; this configuration provides the target temperature, constant along all the front cabinet height. The hot air extracted from the fans inside the server is flown in the external environment and from there picked up and cooled by the TecnoCooling sides which then convey the air in the corridor. For installations in rooms with floor conditioning system it is possible to adjust the flow of cold air inside the corridor.Although in the literature the cold‑aisle configuration is combined with floor conditioning, the Bladeshelter solution allows the use of in row conditioning. The basis of thermal efficiency and energy saving is the maintenance of a temperature difference ΔT between inside and outside of the partitioned volume. Typically, a temperature difference in the range 12 to 15 °C allows to take the maximum

advantage from such a structure. The temperature of the room where the aisle will be located can be handled through the existing air conditioning systems or different systems sized on the real thermal demand. The temperature on the front of the racks in a cold aisle will be constant at any height, as the partitioning eliminates the thermal gradient normally existing. The figure shows the development of a thermal imaging highlighting the above. The thermal gradient in a rack cooled with conventional systems ranges from 18 °C to 32 °C at the top of the cabinet. In one aisle, the temperature remains constant at any height according to the users’ settings. This is the most important characteristic of a cold aisle: temperature and humidity are set by the user and they can be kept constant (within an acceptable tolerance).

Bladeshelter Hot Aisle Containment If the data center is in a room with an operating central conditioning system or the size of the room is suitable to alternative, it might be appropriate to choose an architecture that confines the hot air coming out of the racks in a closed aisle where the air temperature is much higher than room temperature. In this case, the ΔT between air in the aisle and air cooled through the cooling system TecnoCooling is sufficiently high to ensure the maximum efficiency of the system. The modules TecnoCooling suck hot air from inside the corridor and, after the cooling process, push it in the environment outside the aisle where the fans of the servers will aspire to and push back in the hot aisle.

BladeRunnerThe cabling in a complex structure like the AisleContainment and the need to allow the passage from one cabinet to another and from one side of the corridor to the front side, led to design and develop a special cable coverage called BladeRunner.

The special cable coverage, developed in the frame of the project Bladeshelter Aisle Containment, has the following functions:

• To protect the integrity of the cables, avoiding compression and folding that may damage them• To make easy the transition of the many cables connected to equipment mounted in the rack, thereby facilitating possible replacement operations or any maintenance work involving the removal of the equipment• To improve the insulation of the cabinet.

The cover also highlights the design features of the Aisle Containment, According to the worldwide appreciated made in Italy style.

Organized wiringTiPatch is the new BladeShelter series rack specifically designed for applications with high density cabling systems for data centers and SAN, and generally structured local networks. It is a modular open structure, allowing a more optimized management of high performance structured cabling systems in a simple way and with minimal space occupation.

Cabling evolutionThe cabling management is more and more critical and the cable performances have bigger and bigger impact on the network efficiency.Cabling has been always perceived as the passive part of the network but, as the transmission speed increased, whatever cable deformation could have heavy repercussions on the total network efficiency.TiPatch has been designed to solve the management, distribution and cabling control troubles in the datacenters. The modular and open structure allows to reach the patch panels and the vertical runner from all the directions. It complies with the standard Cat5E, Cat6, Cat7, 10Gb, and EIA 310‑D.The roof is equipped with containment runners. The f loor, the sides and the roof are equipped with cable inlet towards both the 19” profiles and the vertical cable management profiles.

Closed architectureTecnocooling is mounted on the side of the server rack. Both structures are insulated and closed by blind doors and glass doors. The air circulates inside in a loop; heat is transferred through water or gas batteries cooled by chillers or by external motorcondensing units.

Open architectureThe devices in the rack are cooled by air sucked from environment. Tecnocooling provides the air cooling before putting it back into the environment at the set temperature.

Gas coolingAn outdoor motorcondensing unit pushes the refrigerant gas in the cooling circuit which remains insulated. Air is drawn and forced through the battery plate and then forced against the machines contained in the rack.

Water coolingThe water circulates in a circuit that is part of a cooling batteries system. The air is sucked from the Tecnocooling fan system and forced to cross the batteries flaps. The cold air is blown into the equipments contained in the rack and cools them.

Tecnocooling is a modular refrigeration unit, scalable and energy efficient.Tecnocooling summarizes the two fundamental parameters: low power consumption and possibility of use even in presence of extremely high loads. The system can in fact dissipate from 4 up to 32 kW per single unit. The high cooling capacity is guaranted by the use of a water chiller or a gas direct expansion system (DX) coupled to a Class A motorcondensing unit.

Actipower is an advanced unit for distribution and power control of servers installed in rack cabinets. Actipower is also the only unit of distribution of power supply that allows control of both the electric variables and the micro environment ones.

Depending on the version, ActiPower allows control of total electrical load per single socket (in models “Switched”), the possibility of remote power ON/OFF per single socket; the possibility to program

sequence power ON in order to avoid peaks absorption in individual equipment. The real news is represented by the unit of environmental monitoring, integrated in the ActiPower unit, which allows

monitoring of temperature, humidity, presence of smoke and presence of water, opening of doors. This reduces the substantial downtime. An alphanumeric display allows the reading of current

input of each equipment and the reading of the other parameters managed.ActiPower is equipped with a server Web “on board” that allows to control the parameters indicated by an

internet browser. The sending of alarms can be made via e‑mail or by sending SNMP traps standard.

It integrates a monitoring system and a management tool. It main‑tains compatibility with legacy infrastructure of industrial world using SNMP Gateway / Modbus RTU. IT monitoring mainly uses the SNMP v1, and v2 protocols while the management compo‑nent consists of an asset management and a system for “Change” control, according to procedures related to ITIL standards. The architecture includes two logical components: the collector and the central server. The server incorporates the collector, aggre‑gates data and manages active and passive reporting. Where necessary, the architecture is distributed and the server and the collector are distinct. The management interface does not require any special client, but can be accessed from most popular browserand from tablet and smartphone.
