A message from the CEOWith almost 4 years of operation, Energy Club NT is now building a strong legacy across the country as a premium networking organisation promoting the Northern Territory energy industry as a global business hub. In the last year we have seen the INPEX operated Ichthys LNG project and Shell’s Prelude floating LNG move into full scale operations adding to our extensive portfolio of oil and gas projects with a stronghold in our jurisdiction.

While continuing to build our local service and supply capability through the operations of major energy assets, engagement has remained strong with a record number of new members in the last 12 months and retention of more than 80% of our annual membership in renewals as we transition to a new phase of projects and development for the industry.

Following the organisation name change in 2018 we have welcomed members from a diverse range of businesses proving the continued on ongoing potential for the Territory’s energy industry as we look to diversify energy projects and opportunities. This has allowed us to begin strong dialogue regarding some alternative energy innovations that may provide significant economic growth, such as hydrogen and solar scenarios, as Dr lan Finkel (Australia Chief Scientist) elaborated on at our April industry dinner.

Emulating our strong membership growth has seen a consistent increase in event attendance with over 2000 attendees across the year. This growth has welcomed 20% more people across our successful industry dinners, dedicated information sharing forums and social events that have sold out well in advance with record attendance for both the Bluewater Classic and Golf in the Tropics.

The opportunity to visit regional centres outside of Darwin has allowed for some new initiative planning as we consider how new projects will impact regional businesses and our ability to assist with education and engagement. This years regional activity has included sponsorship of the AGES conference in Alice Springs and also facilitated some business sessions with Origin in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

On the conference circuit participation in AOG, APPEA and NT Resources Week has continued to provide valuable forum for industry insight and connecting with our membership and potential new stakeholders across the country. Energy Club NT was also part of the Facing North delegation in Canberra taking the opportunity to join a strong team of representatives from the Territory to meet with Federal politicians and bureaucrats showcasing the unique opportunities in our back yard that can contribute to strong economic growth and stability for Australia.

I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing to support the world class projects and stakeholder in our region and look forward to new developments for the wider energy industry and sub-sectors. It is imperative we attract investment to the Territory and I believe the energy industry will continue to play a significant role in building our economy.

I would like to thank all of my board members and Chairman, Paul Henderson, for your contribution and governance over the last year. Its has been fantastic to see continued growth and success with exciting opportunities ahead for the Territory.

Our Sponsors and Partners2018-19 Platinum Sponsors

The Northern Territory is a remote jurisdiction with a proven ability to develop world class projects. There are now four operating LNG trains serviced through Darwin with continued opportunity for expansion on the horizon. Ongoing offshore exploration and the progression of ConocoPhillips Barossa expansion for Darwin LNG back fill provides great prospects building on the existing portfolio already operating in the Territory.

The moratorium on onshore gas development has now been lifted allowing exploration to resume in the Beetaloo basin and our other prospective permit areas. The Beetaloo permit area is likely to contain over 500 TCF of gas which will provide a great opportunity for the Territory as exploration companies can now proceed with activity. The Beetaloo has been highlighted as a major discovery with significant interest from the global industry.

The Northern Territory has also seen substantial interest in diversifying the energy mix with both hydrogen and innovative alternative energy projects providing new opportunity for investment. The energy industry is certainly evolving, as are many of our traditional stakeholders, brining exciting new ventures. Now is the time to embrace the coexistence of gas and alternative energies as we move towards a new energy future with the Northern Territory very well placed to be a major player across this diverse new scenario.
