Congratulations and ThanksWe are bucking the trends of media downsizing which is happening across the state and the nation. We are for the most part maintaining staffing where we maintain enrollment and we are even adding time to media positions at some schools.People were amazed at the email I sent out to the MEMO list looking for media candidates to fill the openings that we will have. It does place an expectation on us to perform.2Reflections and PlanningSignificance and Urgency How Much Time Do I Actually Have to Teach Each Student?38 potential class periods at once a week (35 hours/yr)With holidays, field trips, testing and other interruptions-29-35 class periods ( 26.5-32 hours/yr)Take away transitions, behavior, book checkout, etc(22-28 hours/yr)Compare with reading instruction (330 hours/yr)Your time is equal to about 2 weeks of reading!Focused Instruction

Create a solid core of instruction that is consistent across grade levels and across the districtEveryone who teaches media to fourth graders (for example) will deliver these four units and even though you can adapt the units to suit your school and your instructional style we want the standards to be addressed and the concepts to be delivered.
