Under new leadership in first year Head Coach Mark O’Meara, the Endicott

men’s ice hockey team will look to return to the North East Collegiate Hockey

Association (NECHA) playoffs and claim their first ever conference championship.

The Blue and Green possess a strong upperclassmen presence that hopes to

improve upon last year’s 10-14 record.

Coach O’Meara comes to Endicott after a 13-year head coaching stint with MIT

hockey and prior to that, he coached 11 years at the high school level. O’Meara

hopes to bring his deep understanding and passion for the game to the Gulls.

A trio of defensemen will captain the Blue and Green on the ice this upcoming

season. Senior Drew Bowden (Cumberland, Maine) and juniors Jeffrey Breault

(Blackstone, Mass.) and Gregory Szkop (New Britain, Conn.) have been awarded

captain status as they anchored a Gulls defense that gave up 3.8 goals per game

last season. Bowden, a NECHA All-Star selection, scored four times with eight

assists, Breault netted the puck twice with seven assists, and Szkop tied for fourth

on the team with five goals and fifth with nine assists.

The only other All-Star selection was forward Brett Erickson (Leominster, Mass.)

who Endicott lost to graduation. Erickson accounted for eight goals and 14 assists

in his senior season.

Leading goal scorer Rob DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) returns for a Gulls offense

that averaged 3.5 goals per game. Last season, the forward totaled 42 points on

23 goals and 19 assists to lead the team. The next highest returning goal scorer is

junior forward Kevin Bunting (Plantsville, Conn.) who finished the year with nine

goals, 15 assists, and 24 points.

Other offensive returners including junior Matthew Zimmerman (South

Glastonbury, Conn.) who in 17 games scored four goals and sophomore Garrett

Moore (Sudbury, Mass.) who found the back of the net three goals in 20 games.

Between the pipes, junior Mark Airoldi (Kennebunk, Maine) takes over following

the graduation of Matt Murray (Billerica, Mass.) who played the majority of min-

utes last season. Airoldi, however, averaged a team-best 3.51 goals against average

in just over 170 minutes in net. He made 83 saves on 93 shots on net.

The freshman class features two forwards in Tad Gold (Vineyard Haven, Mass.)

and Cameron MacLeod (Hampton Falls, N.H.) who look to make an impact on the

offensive end. Fellow first year player Blaine Thibodeau (Peabody, Mass.) should

contribute as a solid backup goalie options for the Gulls.

Endicott’s schedule is a challenging one with the Blue and Green facing off against

Boston College, Northeastern, University of Connecticut, and Bryant with some

tough non-conference games against Holy Cross, Harvard, Central Connecticut,

UNH, and University of Maine.

Thanks to all family and friends for their endless support of Endicott Hockey!

Mark O’Meara begins his first season as the

head coach of Endicott club men’s ice hockey.

O’Meara takes over for Dan Haugh, who had

been behind the bench for the Gulls for the past

four seasons. Haugh leaves behind a 44-46-5

overall record during his tenure.

O’Meara comes to Endicott following a 13

year stint as the head coach at MIT. Prior to his

decade-plus time with the Engineers, O’Meara

coached at the high school level for 11 seasons.

O’Meara will bring a deep understanding of the

game and he has a history of continuously chal-

lenged his players to reach their highest ability.

O’Meara inherits an Endicott team that has qualified for the NECHA postseason in

six of its eight club seasons. The Gulls have posted an 86-75-9 overall program

record, with their most successful season coming in 2006-07 when the Blue and

Green qualified for the ACHA National Tournament.
