WEEK OF AUGUST 12, 2009
Blessings to you.
It’s been a roller coaster month for our congregation. God’s blessings are rich and sure upon His church. We have great cause to celebrate and praise
our Lord for His faithfulness. We’ve also been dealing with the death of four
precious individuals over the past few weeks. Fortunately, these individuals
knew the Lord personally. So, while painful and disappointing, we praise the Lord even in
the death of our friends and family, for they are in the presence of God!
As the school year approaches we have many great opportunities to serve and be involved. One of the most exciting opportunities is the Covenant Groups beginning on Wednesday
nights in September. These groups will enhance relationships among our church family
and encourage a deeper understanding and application of the Word of God.
Speaking of Wednesday nights, here’s a look at our new Wednesday evening schedule:
5:20 - 5:45 Fellowship Meal
5:45 - 6:30 Children’s Choirs 6:30 - 7:00 Children’s Missions
5:50 - 6:00 Praise and Prayer (Fellowship Hall)
6:00 - 7:00 Covenant Groups (students and adults)
7:10 Adult Choir
Be sure to check out the web page for updates and more information, www.firstlyman.org.
You don’t want to miss out on the blessings! We’re excited to see how God shows off!
I love you all,

I attended a conference for ministers of music last week, and a question
was asked of us, which I shared with you this past Sunday: What if we came into worship on Sunday and instead of thinking about all that
distracts us, (things like the clothes we’re wearing, what we’re having for
lunch, what’s the music going to be like) we focused our thoughts on the
Lord? What if, before we ever entered into the Sanctuary, we made a
decision to praise Him? What if, as the hymn says, we would “ponder
anew, what the Almighty can do?” Maybe that language is a little archaic, so let’s say it
this way: Think about the Lord. Come into worship with your mind already focused on
Him. Praise Him whether you feel like it or not. Why don’t we, as David wrote in Psalm
5, come into His presence and “wait in expectation.” Come expecting Him to do
something new in you and through you! Think about what God can and will do if we are
faithful to praise Him. Do you think it would make a difference in our worship? I sure
do!
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out at Lyman Lake this Sunday evening. It’s
going to be a great time of fun and fellowship, and of course, I’m looking forward to the
food! Bring a side dish and a dessert, and don’t forget your lawn chairs. We’ll have a
great time together!
Brian

Hello Lyman! I can’t believe the summer is almost over! It just
flew by between camp, Sliding Rock, Carowinds, our mission trip, and
the million other things we did this year! Man, did we have a blast,
and I think that it is safe to say that our mission trip that we went
on the other week was hands down THE best trip we have ever had. God did so
many awesome things, and we can’t wait to share them with you at First Joy later
this month.
Well, by the time you are reading this, I am probably on a beach somewhere
getting a little rest and relaxation. No, this isn’t another summer camp - I’m on
vacation! I am really looking forward to getting to spend some time with my mom
and my brother and with the Lord. Please pray for God to give us safe travel and
for me to walk away refreshed and renewed spiritually.
I miss you guys, and I can’t wait to worship with you again this
Sunday! God has been so good to us, hasn’t He? It’s so awesome to
look back and see what He has already done, and I can’t wait to see
what He has in store for us! I love you guys!
Come join in the fun and
fellowship on August 16 at our annual Lyman Lake Cookout. The church will provide the chicken and drink;
you bring the sides and dessert.
