90%

More than 90% Taiwanese people live in citiesthat on the west part of Taiwan. The middle and east parts of Taiwan are full of mountains and gorges.

Geographic Condition

22

If we can broke the limit of geographic conditions then we have more land to use. That is to say, we don’t have to live in houses like bird cages.

Longshan Temple, built in 1653, Lukan, Taiwan

Culture

24

Traditional Taiwanese temples were built without glue, concreteor nails. People cut woods into di#erent shapes for particular purposeslike support, hang or just for decoration. Then these wooden parts wouldbe combined into a bigger part like a roof or arch. Finally, !t all the parts together to build the temple.

Technique

Page 15: ENBO CHEN_Portfolio 2011

EconomicIn the 1960th, Kaohsiung, the south of Taiwan became well known for its bananas. In 1963, Japan port to receiveTaiwanese bananas. Since the bananas have been very popular in Japan. Apparently, all money earned for bananaexports to Japan accounted for a 3rd foreign trade. The value of 6 bananas used to equal to the value of an imported suit. Bananas were the best export business in Taiwan - like a Banana Kingdom.

Banana’s shape, bundle and how bundles connect to each other are very good ideas to build human’s houses.
