3D LASER SCANNING SCOPE OF THE PROJECT: 2D SURVEY AND 3D MODELLING
The building housing the National Museum of Romanian History, built in the 19th century, in a neoclassical style, of German inspiration, is historical monument. The building structure has been seriously affected by the earthquakes of 1940 and 1977, so the restoration process became the main preoccupation in the last decade.
To this effect, the surveying method through 3D laser scanning was selected due to the following benefits :
• Speediness in the performance of the work;• Very low risk for the occurrence of occupational accidents in a building seriously damaged by earthquakes and time factor;• Low price of works;• Authentic, full and accurate 3D copy of reality;• 2D and 3D documentation within the easy reach of engineers, structure designers and architects;• Conversion in 2D plans and 3D models compatible with all CAD software ;• Conversion of laser scanning into digital orthophoto;• Multiple measurements of the property are no longer necessary, the building and its surroundings being totally registered.
