Ready or not, EMV is here…

Visa and MasterCard have cautioned that if financial institutions are not ready for EMV by next October, they could face significant

financial and reputational risk. Less than 50% of card-issuing credit unions are expected to have both credit and debit cards set up

for EMV by next fall, according to some industry insiders. (11/9/14)

On Friday (10/17/14), President Obama signed an executive order to speed the

adoption of EMV-standard cards in the US.

The Payments Security Task Force, which includes MasterCard, CitiBank, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells

Fargo, predicts 575 million EMV cards will be issued in the US by the end of 2015, and 47 percent of all US payment terminals

will accept the cards. (Nov 2014)

According to a MasterCard consumer attitudes study conducted in March 2014, consumers list enhanced security of chip cards as their #1 benefit

• “Even when it comes to learning how to use their card at other types of merchants, nearly half (44 percent) of consumers see their financial institution as their primary source of information, compared to only 31 percent who expect such education to come from merchants.

A welcome kit would be most helpful for consumers
