Installing the Solaris Operating System Before installing EMS-BGF software, the Solaris operating system (for sparc or x86) must be installed on the NM computer.

NOTE: For more information about installing the Solaris operating system, refer to relevant Solaris installation manuals.

Accessing the EMS-BGF Solaris Application Packages

Follow the procedure below to access the EMS-BGF Solaris application packages, which is used to install various EMS-BGF network management system components.

Before you start:

There are 3 types of the EMS-BGF application for now:

EMS-BGF for MSPP (V10.0/V11.0/V11.3/V12.0/V12.1)

EMS-BGF for CESR (V11.4/V12.5)

EMS-BGF for MSPP and CESR (V13)

If you previously installed any one of them, before installing the new EMS-BGF, you have to run stopServer.sh to completely stop the current running EMS-BGF application and then install the required new application.

In this chapter: Overview ......................................................................................................... 3-1 Checking the Configuration ............................................................................. 3-3

Overview LightSoft manages a network through an EMS (Element Management System) which provides LightSoft with the information it needs to maintain the network. There are times when you may need to use LightSoft to view windows from the EMS. Normally, this would require you to log into the EMS on the local terminal and find the information manually. To make things easier and more efficient, LightSoft’s GCT allows you to view EMS information without having to start an individual EMS session.

3 GUI Cut-Through (GCT)

Page 26: Ems-bgf Solaris Ig v13 En

GUI Cut-Through (GCT) EMS-BGF Installation Guide

3-2 ECI Telecom Ltd. Proprietary 4BGHT6-EMSW-248

There are two cases for the configuration according to your installation on Solaris:

Case 1: Install the EMS-BGF's server and client on the same machine (on Solaris). In this case, when you install EMS-BGF’s client on the station, the GCTAdmin Service will automatically run.

Case 2: Install the EMS-BGF's server on one machine, and the client on Client-Server machine, as shown in the following figure. In this case, when you install EMS-BGF’s client on Client-Server machine, then GCTAdmin Service will automatically run.

From this figure, we see that the EMS Server is installed on Windows and the Client-Server is on Linux. It solves the problem that Windows does not support X-Window protocol, and provides the GCT support for integration with LightSoft.

Page 27: Ems-bgf Solaris Ig v13 En

EMS-BGF Installation Guide GUI Cut-Through (GCT)

4BGHT6-EMSW-248 ECI Telecom Ltd. Proprietary 3-3

Checking the Configuration When you open GCT from NMS client to EMS-BGF, there pops-up a message window in NMS, indicating that "Can't open main shelf/window for EMS", use the procedures described below to check the configuration.

To check the configuration for Case 1 (server and client both on A machine):

1. Ensure that the EMS-BGF is installed on non-windows systems.

2. To Check whether the GCTAdmin services are normal, type the command "ps -ef|grep java" in terminal. If the GCTAdmin service is normal, the progress will show as below.

Otherwise, please manually run "/opt/EMS-BGF/client/sh/runGCTAdmin.sh" and then try it again.

Page 28: Ems-bgf Solaris Ig v13 En

GUI Cut-Through (GCT) EMS-BGF Installation Guide

3-4 ECI Telecom Ltd. Proprietary 4BGHT6-EMSW-248

To check the configuration for Case 2 (server on A machine and client on B machine):

1. Ensure that the EMS-BGF's client is installed on non-windows systems.

2. Check whether "GCTAdminServerIP" is the same with "B machine IP" in the file "/opt/EMS-BGF/server/etc/emsserver.properties" on A machine. If not, change it and restart the EMS-BGF's server.

3. Type the command "ps -ef|grep java" in terminal to check whether the GCTAdmin service is normal on B machine. If the GCTAdmin service is normal, the progress will show as below.

Otherwise, please manually run "/opt/EMS-BGF/client/sh/runGCTAdmin.sh" with user bgf and then try it again.
