The PDHPE Educator

Any of these teachers could be a PDHPE educator!

The ideal PDHPE educator;

Possesses confidence in ones ability.Should dress appropriately (i.e. in active wear).Have a passionate and enthusiastic attitude to teaching and PDHP.EMust have excellent communication, observation and organisational skills.Sound knowledge of the PDHPE syllabus and child development.Be able to create a socially just atmosphere in the classroom, and ensure that all students in the class develop a sense of belonging. Must lead, and be able to demonstrate, healthy lifestyle and habits.Posses the necessary skills to demonstrate techniques and skills to students.Be able to adapt their skill level to suit those of the children.Must have an attitude suited to encouraging young children to have a go and a long list of phrases to use in these situations.

PDHPE and Educational Settings: My PositionPhysical education should be conducted on a daily basis(Tinning, Macdonald, Wright and Hickey, 2001)

Physical education improves cognitive function(Castelli and Hillman, 2007)

Physical activity in schools should be educational(Kirk, Nauright, Hanrahan, Macdonald and Jobling, 1996)

In conclusion:There is no set recipe that can be applied in all situations(Tinning, Kirk and Evans, 1993)

That is, teaching PDHPE will always provide challenges!!
