What do companies do to retain women in the workforce and see them flourish? What are the potential avenues and opportunities for women with children who want to balance family life and fulfilling career? Join us for an evening where we will unpack what it means to empower women in the workforce and answers all the above questions. This event will be presented as a panel discussion. Our four guests will share with us what their company or organisation do to maintain women in the workforce but also see them climb the corporate ladder. Panel Members Nour Ette, Orica Nour is a recognised leader at Orica where she excels in her role as a territory manager. Trained chemical engineer, with a strong background of the mining and manufacturing industry, she is a focussed sales professional with demonstrated skills in continuous improvement, resources, assets and Safety Management. She has volunteered to promote through the Australia Pacific region the initiatives Orica has launched to promote diversity and inclusion. Strong advocate for women in a male dominated industry, she is an inspiring ambassador for women in the mining industry. Michelle Lawson, Glencore, Women in Mining Financial Controller of Glencore Coal Assets Australia, Michelle also sits on the board of directors of multiple companies within the Glencore Group. She is an advocate for the mining industry’s development and improvement and strongly believes women are part of its future. She is the co-chair of Women in Mining NSW and volunteers yearly to their mentoring program which supports women through their career in a male dominated industry. In 2015, Michelle was awarded NSW Women in Mining winner for Gender Diversity Champion, finalist in the Women in Resources National Awards and also acknowledged as one of 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining 2016. Prof Regina Berretta, School of electrical engineering and computing, University of Newcastle Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computing at University of Newcastle, Prof Berretta holds degrees in Computational and Applied Mathematics, Mathematics for Teaching, a Master and PhD in Engineering. She has been in several leadership positions at UoN, including, Head of Discipline, Deputy Head of School. Since the beginning of 2019, Prof Berretta assumed a new leadership position: Assistant Dean – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment to provides strategic leadership and initiatives regarding Equity, Diversity and Inclusion within the Faculty.

Jo Withford, Project/Contract, RMS With over 24 years of road and bridge construction experience, Jo has a strong knowledge of project management, construction and maintenance issues. She is passionate about encouraging young girls and women to study and stay in STEM and she is actively involved as a Fellow Member of Engineers Australia, in HunterWiSE and she regularly speaks at numerous Primary Schools and High Schools. Jo works for Roads and Maritime Services where she has spent the past 19 years building and maintaining road infrastructure as a project engineer. Jo has been able to successfully manage great work/life balance during her engineering career and raising three daughters.
