General Conditions of Employment

Working Pattern: Monday to Sunday, 7-day roster, 76 rostered ordinary hours

within 14 days, entitlement to a 9 day fortnight

Remuneration: Base salary $57,209 - $60,645* plus 10% loading for all rostered ordinary hours

Superannuation: Employer contribution of 15.25%

POSITION PURPOSE (Why does this position exist)

To assist the Launceston Waste Centre Leading Hand as directed. To carry out maintenance and disposal of all waste at the Launceston Waste Centre or any other section of council as directed. This is to be done in accordance with the Workplace Health and Safety Act, the Remount Refuse Disposal Area Environmental Management Plan, licences and to meet all customer expectations in a positive manner.

Oversee the disposal of refuse by the public at the Transfer Station

Direct the operations of the Transfer Station, liaise with public (customers) and assist with enquiries.

Refuse is disposed of in the correct areas.

No hazardous/controlled wastes are disposed of without approval.

Tyres, oils, cardboard, co-mingled, whitegoods, steel are separated for collection by the recycling companies.

Oversee the disposal of refuse at the Landfill site for heavy vehicles

Direct all operations at the Landfill site to filling sequences already agreed to.

Orderly movement of traffic is maintained.

Compliance Ensure the operations of Launceston Waste Centre are in compliance with the Operations Manual and all Licence Conditions applicable to the site.

No licence breaches.

Work is conducted in accordance with Council policies/procedures.

Collection of charges Collect appropriate tipping charges and operate the weighbridge at the ticket office.

Run reports in I-weigh as required.

Knowledge of general gate house duty's

Fees are collected in accordance with approved charges.

All vehicles that are required to be weighed are done so correctly over the weighbridge.

Litter Control Clean up litter around the Tip area and Transfer Station, including access roads, perimeter drains, and moveable fences on a weekly basis.

Litter is moved on a weekly basis.

Litter around site and neighbouring properties does not accumulate.

Checking of security cameras

View security camera footage on a daily basis looking for any activities not permitted.

Footage is viewed on a daily basis.

Any non-permitted activities are reported to the Waste & Cleansing Services Manager immediately.

Illegal scavenging Prevent illegal scavenging from occurring on site.

No waste is removed from the site (except from authorised recyclers).

Assist in the the removal of illegal scavengers from the tip grounds.

Report all incidents, accidents and hazards using the CoL Incident Notification procedure

Reporting incidents, accidents and hazards.

Participating in the analysis of incidents.

All incidents, and hazards reported immediately through the required system.

Security Ensure the facilities are kept safe and secure including locking all gates and doors and setting security at close of work.

All gates and doors are locked and security set at the close of work.

Ensure all members of the public have left the site before leaving.

Safety Perform all tasks in a safe and positive manner protecting yourself, workmates and the public from injury
