1

Learning Objectivesn Understand the current surgical and endovascular

treatment methods for patients with vascular diseases including: lower extremity ischemia, aortic aneurysms, carotid disease, venous disease, and AV access

n Review indications, techniques, and results of surgical and endovascular options for complex lower extremity revascularization and limb salvage

n Review the medical and surgical principles in treating the infected foot with soft tissue and/or bone involvement including antibiotic selection, surgical debridement, and reconstruction

n Understand surgical and endovascular best practices and techniques for the treatment of carotid artery disease

n Review the current devices and techniques for the repair of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms

n Review the principles of wound healing and discuss decision making with the most current available modalities to heal chronic wounds including wound healing dressing products, negative pressure wound therapy, local surgical flaps and grafts, hyperbaric oxygen, and skin substitute products

n Review the medical and surgical decision making principles in the management of the neuropathic foot including bracing, reconstruction, and medica-tion selection

n In separate sessions, provide instructions by experienced OR nurses and radiologic technolo-gists on preparation and implementation of complex vascular procedures

n Review the current state-of-the-art on management of AV access and it’s complications

n Review current concepts on treatment of venous disease, including non-thermal ablation of saphenous veins

n Provide advice on setting up an outpatient facility by those who have done it

Overall Goals This symposium is a two-day educational event for clinicians involved in the management of vascular diseases, wound care, and podiatric problems. Addi-tional sessions are dedicated to visiting nurse specialists, OR vascular nurses, fellows-in-train-ing, vascular laboratory techni-cians, and radiologic technolo-gists. Our nationally recognized faculty will address issues in current clinical practice, compli-cations and pitfalls of newer technologies, and discuss the evolution of the field. Attendee participation and interaction will be emphasized and facilitated through debates, Q & A sessions, live case presentations, interac-tive case presentations, and hands-on technical sessions.
