As general membership at the Greater Fort WayneChamber o Commerce continues to grow, so does the

variety o organizations and companies that make up

that membership. Each issue o Emphasis will introduce

or reacquaint you with a ew Chamber members who all

industrial, medical, or retail related, theres a member or

    that!

    Arts United

For signs o nonprot growth, look no urtherthan Arts United. As an umbrella organizationthat supports art and culture in the 10-county

Fort Wayne region, Arts United raised undingrom local oundations and purchased the ormerFourth Wave/NIPSCO building at Main and BarrStreet.

Now called the Auer Center or Arts and Cul-ture, the building will serve as a shared space orarts and cultural organizations. Te second ooro the Auer Center is currently under renovationor the Fort Wayne Ballet.

By developing this building, were helping non-prots work more e ciently through shared over-head, technical systems, and meeting space whilecreating an arts campus in the heart o the city, said ena Woenker, Director o Marketing and

Business Development with Arts United.Woenker had a long history o involvement

with the Chamber in ippecanoe County. Whenshe moved to Fort Wayne three years ago, gettinginvolved with the Chamber was one o the rstthings she did.

Arts United is becoming increasingly active inthe Chamber and business community, Woenkersaid. It has always been our mission to enrich thecommunity by supporting our arts and culturalnonprots. Oten communities that celebratetheir history and nurture their arts communitiesare more resilient to uctuations in the economy.

Perhaps because they drive tourism and local in-vestment and are encouraged to be more creativein approaching community issues.

    Hispanic Chamber o Commerce

In 1990, the Greater Fort Wayne HispanicChamber o Commerce got its start with twelvemembers and proceeded to move its o ces to the

third oor o the Fort Wayne Chamber o Com-

merce building in 1992.Mayor Paul Helmke recognized early on that

the Hispanic Chamber would be an asset to thecommunity as a new and emerging organizationwith the ability to have a positive inuence on theeconomic development o Hispanic and Minorityowned businesses in the Fort Wayne area.

Since its inception, the Hispanic Chamber hasbeen an active participant in local business andcommunity afairs, said Herb Hernandez, Presi-dent o the Hispanic Chamber o Commerce. Weare one o over 300 local chapters o the UnitedStates Hispanic Chamber o Commerce. Te

USHCC actively promotes the economic growthand development o Hispanic/Latino entrepre-neurs as well as the policies that support ourmission.

Te annual Hispanic Chamber Gol Outing willtake place this year at the Colonial Oaks GolCourse located at 8218 Hugenard Road rom 8a.m. until 2 p.m. More inormation about the His-panic Chamber Gol Outing and other events canbe ound on the calendar at the Hispanic Chamberweb site.

Hernandez emphasized that the Greater FortWayne Hispanic Chamber o Commerce will con-tinue to advocate the success o Hispanic owned

businesses because supporting such entrepre-neurs also strengthens our local community, state, and nation.

    United Way o Allen County

When it comes to bringing the community to-gether in the name o a good cause, United Wayo Allen County (UWAC) is likely to be involved.UWAC is one o 1,350 United Ways across thecountry and although all are members o UnitedWay o America, each is independent and governsitsel by a local board o directors.

One o UWACs more recent campaigns is Learn

United, an efort launched in 2008 with the goalo ensuring all local third-graders can read atgrade level.

At the time o the launch, more than 1,000 thirdgrade students were unable to pass the ISEP lan-guage section. Since then, hundreds o volunteershave been recruited and are working selesslywith these students to ensure their uture success.

United Way o Allen Countys ultimate goal is toeliminate the reading achievement gap by 2019.

For those looking to get involved or lend a help-ing hand, the 2011 Day o Caring will take place onAugust 4. Te day begins with a 7:30 a.m. break-ast at Headwaters Park West (Rothschild Pavil-ion) and then continues as teams go out and per-orm volunteer service on selected projects.

In 2010, more than 1,200 local volunteers par-ticipated and put in over 9,000 combined hourso community service. What started in 1993 as asprucing up o the YWCA campus by 250 volun-teers has bloomed into an annual event that in-volves the entire community and is an easy way oreveryone to give back.

    Renaissance Pointe YMCA

For physical health, education assistance andmore, the YMCA has been the rst stop or manymembers o the Fort Wayne community. Te Re-naissance Pointe YMCA opened in November2010 and is already striving to create programsthat meet the direct needs o the community

around them.Te cultural aspect o where were at is very

unique, said Ebony Young, executive director othe Rennaissance Pointe YMCA. With the collec-tive engagement o so many races and ethnicities, our programming has to be unique to meet theneeds o that audience.

Among other things, the Renaissance PointeYMCA boasts a warm water therapy pool that ishandicap accessible, one o the ew in the city withthat eature. Late this summer, the acility will bebreaking ground on a splash park nearby completewith a pavilion, public access, and more. Te atercare program or students in grades K-6 is alsogrowing thanks to a unique partnership with Fort

Wayne Community Schools. Were very intentional about our process withthe kids, Young said. Weve created a partnershipwith Fort Wayne Community Schools that allowscommunication with each students teacher. Its anetwork o the teacher, the YMCA, and the parent.I parents eel their children are alling behind, thisis a great program to help the children get ahead.

Te BuyWithPQC Group Purchasing Organiza-tion has already experienced some wonderul rec-ognition, and were really excited to be a part othese successes.

I you havent heard, a GPO is a vehicle or com-bining the purchasing power o a large numbero small to mid-size businesses. Our GPO allowsmembers to purchase items at discounts that areunattainable individually.

O ce supplies are a necessary part o everybusiness. Lets ace it: Its kind o hard to run abusiness without notepads, pens, copy paper, andsticky notes. Te BuyWithPQC GPO allows waysto reduce your o ce supply spending. Here is howone o our success stories worked:

A small business in Fort Wayne contacted the

BuyWithPQC GPO to take advantage o our pre-negotiated rates with O ceMax.

Initially, they were interested in purchasing sev-eral boxes o copy paper. However, like many otherbusinesses, they did a comparison with other na-tional o ce supply companies. Tey determinedit was cheaper to purchase the copy paper romanother national supplier that was ofering a spe-cial discounted price that week. Tey called back, proud that theyd beat our pre-negotiated price.

However, once we reviewed their total purchase,

we were able to show them that with their addi-tional items, such as boxes o envelopes, pens, highlighters, etc., our BuyWithPQC price was 64percent lower.

By taking advantage o smaller necessary itemslower costs and our ree next-day shipping, thesavings were astronomical. Te diference was inthe details: smaller necessary items and the ship-ping cost. Plus these prices are good all year round, not just or one week.

In this economy, no business can aford to riv-olously waste anything. By reviewing the totalneeds o this local business, we were able to shavemore than $1,000 of their monthly o ce spend-ing through our BuyWithPQC program.

Te key to reducing your o ce supply spending

revolves around knowing what program ofers thebest overall discount. o access our pre-negotiatedrates, all your business needs to do is enroll in theBuyWithPQC GPO.

Enrollment in the BuyWithPQC Group Purchas-ing Organization is completely ree. When yourcompany becomes a member, you will immediatelybenet rom savings on your purchases.

Our secure online enrollment is quick and easyand will open the door to signicant savings andcost reductions.

Have continued success with a GPO
