THE TRAININGThis training was developed to prepare you toparticipate fully in the life of the community byproviding support to othersfriends, family, orpeople you havent met -- who may beexperiencing an emotional crisis.
eCPR teaches the simple skills of one person
assisting and supporting another. The skills taughtin eCPR are designed to be practised by peoplewho have both had training and those with noexperience or training in counselling, assessment,or other clinical skills. Even if you have receivedprevious training, it is our hope that you will findsome aspects of the eCPR process to be new,hopeful and empowering.
This training was developed by people who havelearned from their own experience how to getthrough an emotional crisis and integrate the
experience into a broader understanding ofthemselves and others. Our approach is based ontime-tested, basic common-sense principles ofdeep listening and interacting in a respectfulmanner. The developers of eCPR have been usersof the American mental health and/or substanceuse service system and have also providedservices themselves.
THE TRAINERJenny Speed has worked for thirty years in publicand private sector health administration, planning
and policy, disability and mental health advocacy.She is an energetic mental health consumeractivist locally, nationally and internationally.Throughout these activities, she has maintained astrong commitment to social justice. She iscurrently working at Sisters Inside overseeing thedevelopment and delivery of programs andservices to criminalised women and their children.
