EMODNET PHYSICAL PARAMETERS
The European Commission, represented by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), concluded a service contracts aiming to:
Create prototype components of the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet).
Provide access to archived and real-time data on physical conditions in Europe's seas and oceans and determine how well the data meet the needs of users.
EMODNET PHYSICAL PARAMETERS
Rely on INSPIRE principles to leave data as close as possible to their collection source and thus the system is based on distributed data nodes;
Exchanges with other initiatives/links with infrastructures managing real-time/near real-time and delayed mode data;
Use harmonized reporting tools.
WORKING PRINCIPLES
Data/Metadata included in the proposal:
1. wave height and period 2. temperature of the water column (fixed and ferry) 3. wind speed and direction 4. salinity of the water column (fixed and ferry) 5. horizontal velocity of the water column 6. light attenuation 7. sea level
DATA INCLUDED IN THE PROPOSAL

COLLABORATION WITH EXISTING PROJECTS
All contributors will be actors in the project:
documents will be agreed during ad hoc EuroGOOS meetings
A EuroGOOS technical report will contain results and names of contributors
EMODnet PP has been presented in IBI ROOS and MOON meetings
Western Mediterranean Sea (ROOS Med, SeaDataNet); Adriatic Sea (ROOS Med, SeaDataNet); Ionian Sea and Central Mediterranean Sea (ROOS Med and
SeaDataNet); Aegean-Levantine Sea (ROOS Med and SeaDataNet); Greater North Sea, including Kattegat, and English Channel (ROOS
NWS [North West Shelf] and SeaDataNet); Celtic Seas (ROOS IBI and SeaDataNet); Bay of Biscay and the Iberian Coast (ROOS IBI and SeaDataNet); In the Atlantic Ocean, the Macronesian bio-geographic region, being
the waters surrounding the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands (Coriolis and SeaDataNet), and Cape Verde (E subtropical Atlantic)
North Atlantic (including Porcupine Abyssal Plain, Central Irminger Basin, Norvegian Sea)
GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE (AND ACTING COMMUNITIES)
SeaDataNet has set up and is operating a pan-European infrastructure for managing marine and ocean data by connecting 40 National Oceanographic Data Centres (NODC’s), national oceanographic focal points, and ocean satellite data centres, in Europe

InteroperabilityInteroperability and metadatametadata sharing sharing are two key technologies in discovering and enabling access to usable resources (i.e. information, data, services, models, etc.)
Interoperability and metadata sharing are achieved by adopting a Service-Oriented Architecture Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach applying International Standards and Best practicesInternational Standards and Best practices
