WHAT’S INSIDE:

Starting out in a New 4-H Year Winter is slowly approaching and the 2011-2012 4-H year has begun! We have

celebrated National 4-H Week and new members have begun to enroll. It is a

great time to be thankful for our 4H leaders and volunteers for all of their hard

work. It’s also a good time for 4-H members to share with others all they have

learned through 4-H! Remember that 4-H is a “family affair”- the more you and

your parents become involved, the more you will get out of the program and the

more it will benefit your life! I can’t wait to see the impact that 4-H will have on

all of your lives!

We would like to welcome all the new 4-H members and their families to the

Emmet County 4-H Program. We are starting another exciting year of 4-H in

Emmet County! I encourage 4-H members to get involved in the county and

multi-county 4-H activities and events being offered.

As we approach the Holiday Season remember community service and giving to

others in need is a BIG part of 4-H and I encourage you and your clubs to look for

ways to give back to those in need in your communities.

I wish you all a happy and healthy Holiday Season!

Presbyterian Church in

Estherville we will hold a New

Member Pizza Party and Info

Meeting.

Please join us as we welcome

you to 4-H with a little

pizza, info, explanations, tips,

and fun! This will be a great way

for you to meet other new 4-H

members from around Emmet

County.

All new members will receive an

invitation with more details.

Mark your calendars now!

In the meantime; call, email or

stop in if you have questions!

a few families who have not completed

this process yet. We hope that you will

do so soon! Medical/release forms are

not required this year, because these

questions are included online as well.

*Once you have enrolled, you can use

4hOnline to change or add to your

project enrollment, ID animals, view the

4-H newsletter, and eventually sign up

for 4-H events. The program is very

easy to use and we think that you will all

enjoy using it!

*To complete your registration process,

you will need to pay your $20.00

enrollment fee (make checks to Emmet

County Extension). This fee goes

directly down to the State 4-H office for

support of our program.

*If you have questions/problems with

this process, please let Marcy know!

4-H Re-enrollment

Deadline is

December 15th!

If you would like to be a part of the Emmet

County 4-H Shooting Sports group, please call

the Extension Office (362-3434) or email Marcy

by January 6th to get on the list. The group is

limited to the first 25 youth who sign up, with

previous members getting first preference.

Remember that even if you were in the group

last year, you still need to get on the list for this

year.

The Shooting Sports group typically meets the

3rd Sunday of each month from January

through October at 2:00pm. They meet at the

Izaak Walton League when the weather is nice

and at the Gruver Community Center during the

winter and if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Members can choose to participate in archery,

air rifles, shotgun, and muzzle loading.

If you have questions about this group, feel free

to contact one of the volunteer leaders: Monte

or Deb Hoffmeyer, Dave Solberg, Mike Martens,

BUCKET BOTTLE CALVES

EAR TAGGERS

MARKET BEEF

We are still missing quite a few

ear taggers that we lent out for

people to use to tag their

livestock last spring. If you

have one of these, please

return it to the Extension Office

ASAP so people can use it for

tagging animals this year!

Thanks!

If you have a bucket-bottle calf

that you plan to bring back as a

breeding heifer in 2011, you

should have the calf vaccinated

for brucellosis before 10

months of age.

Pens of three and individual market beef

animals need to be weighed-in and DNA

verified on Saturday, December 10th

(snow date is December 17th) from 8:00

-11:00AM at the Gary Madden Farm—

5150 240th St, Ringsted. Ear tags must

be in before weigh-in and are for sale at

the Extension Office for $1.50 (FFA

calves must have FFA tags)!

If you are planning to show beef at the

Iowa State Fair, you will need to have

your calves verified through retinal

imaging. This will be done the Friday

afternoon before weigh-in (the 9th). (Let

the Extension Office know by

December 2nd if you plan to retinal

image calves for the Iowa State Fair so

that we will have enough supplies on

hand). Those who plan to verify for Ak-

Sar-Ben will do this on Saturday—let us

know by Dec 2nd, so we have supplies

on hand.
