Powell Blvd. and NE Division St., Chestnut Lane is an ideal community for Deaf and Deaf/Blind individuals. From a relaxing atmosphere to themed events to day trips, Chestnut Lane is a truly well-rounded community of care and support provided in American Sign Language.

Chestnut Lane offers easy access to the MAX light rail system offering a wonderful convenience for our families, many of whom travel here from points all across the United States.

Within just 30 minutes, our residents can be standing in front of spectacular Multnomah Falls in the Colombia River Gorge. Shopping at Fred Meyer and Walmart, playing cards at the deaf center in nearby Vancouver, picking pumpkins at Twisted Creek Ranch, or taking the Portland Aerial Tram — with its amazing views of the city, Willamette River and Cascade Mountains — are just a few of the activities that our residents enjoy.

We are also centrally located to several major hospitals nearby, including Oregon Health Sciences University, Adventist Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente — and Mt. Hood Legacy Hospital, which is right in our own backyard.

A Wonderful Place to Live Serving the Deaf Senior CommunityBuilt in 2005, Chestnut Lane was designed specifically to accommodate the needs of our Deaf and Deaf/Blind residents. Our spacious, open areas provides the visibility residents need to sign to each other from across the room. Our hallways are very wide and offer alcoves that allow for privacy between residents when they are engaged in sign language conversations.

Each member of our staff is committed to communicating with residents in sign language — some are deaf themselves. Our community is one big family that embraces people of all ages and a variety of disabilities. Yet no disability stops our residents from enjoying life to its fullest. From casino visits and wine tours, to exploring Multnomah Falls in the Colombia River George, to holiday parties, picnics, weekly bowling and shopping, our residents are always on the go!

As we get older, many of us naturally need a helping hand – perhaps someone to help us get ready for the day,

help manage our medications or prepare special meals. Sometimes that’s all we need to live safely on our own.
