When a fire is discovered:

- Activate the nearest fire alarm- Notify the local Fire Department

Fight the fire ONLY if:

- The Fire Department has been notified.- The fire is small and is not spreading to other areas.- Escaping the area is possible by backing up to the nearest

exit.- The fire extinguisher is in working condition and personnel

are trained to use it.

Upon being notified about the fire emergency, occupants must:

- Leave the building using designated escape routes.- Assemble in the designated area.- Remain outside until the competent authority announces that

it is safe to reenter.

Upon notification of a Tornado Warning:

- Take shelter in the designated area on the evacuation plan. (First floor – Men’s & Women’s Restroom)

- If unable to seek shelter in one of the designated areas, move away from windows. Take cover under heavy furniture.

Upon notification of a Hurricane Warning:

- Be ready to evacuate as directed by the designated employee. (Ward Best, Warren Groseclose or Mark Short)

Page 5: Emergency Response Plan - Atlantic Bulk€¦ · Web viewPolice, Fire or Medical – Call 911 Medical Emergency: Hamilton Emergency Medical Service 706-278-0111 Estimated response

- Leave areas that might be affected by storm tide or stream flooding.

During a Hurricane:

Remain indoors and consider the following:

- Small interior rooms on the lowest floor and without windows.

- Hallways on the lowest floor away from doors and windows.

During an Earthquake:

- Earthquakes occur without warning. Some earthquakes are instantaneous tremors and others are significant sustained events followed by aftershocks.

- Stay indoors if already there.- If indoors take cover. Suggested locations inside building

that provide cover include: Standing in a doorway and bracing your

hands and feet against each side Getting under sturdy furniture, such as

work tables or desks Standing flat against an interior wall

- Stay near the center of the building and avoid glass windows and doors.

- After tremors have stopped, quickly leave the building through the evacuation routes outlined in the evacuation plan.

- Once outside the building, gather at the Primary Assembly Point. Designated employee will conduct a brief survey of all present to determine if anyone is potentially missing and possibly remains in the building.

- Be prepared for aftershocks. Aftershocks can cause additional damage and may bring weakened structures down.

Page 6: Emergency Response Plan - Atlantic Bulk€¦ · Web viewPolice, Fire or Medical – Call 911 Medical Emergency: Hamilton Emergency Medical Service 706-278-0111 Estimated response

Aftershocks can occur in the first hours, days, weeks, or even months after the quake.
