the Problem

In Romania:•No preparedness for disasters– Lack of knowledge - what to do if..– Lack of information about disaster

•Reduced speed of response•Reduced human resource coordination

The NeedBefore emergency:

– Know the risks in communities– Early warning for emergency situations – Know sources of alternative energy/ resources for emergency

During the emergency:– Alert the people– Inform the potential helpers about disaster– Reach the people in disaster

Response– Mobilizing people for response – heath, food, evacuation

Solution (1)• Crowdsourcing platform

– provide/ collect information about potential hazards and emergency situation.

– provide mapping of those who need help and want to help– mapping solutions for emergency situations– early warning system.

• Mobile applications that can collect information, distribute information about emergency and engage people in response (using geospatial technologies, etc.)

• Mobile SMS campaign to collect information about emergency, distribution of alerts, and engaging communities in response SMS based alert system

• Alternative platforms for communications in emergency situations: Radio used to reach remote communities – short wave radio
