    1 INTRODUCTION

    General The Waratah Train (A-Set) is an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) which consists of eight double-deck cars (Figure 1) combined into a semi-permanent group. There are three types of Car: a. Trailer Driver Car (TDC); b. Trailer Car (TC); and c. Motor Car (MC). A TDC is located at each end of the set, two non-driving TC located in the middle of the set, and the four intermediate Cars are MC which have all axles powered by traction motors. The Set has a Drivers Cab at each end. The Set is designed to operate independently, and with the capability to operate coupled to another set for emergency or recovery conditions.

    Each car body is mounted on two twin axle bogies. The cars are semi-permanently connected by means of couplers and are electrically powered from an overhead 1500 V DC wire. Passengers enter and leave the train via electrically-operated sliding plug type body-side doors, 2 pairs of which are positioned on each side of the Car. Movement through a set is possible via inter-car sliding doors and connecting gangways, mounted within flexible corrugated bellows. Centre Roof Structure cut-outs (Figure 2 and Figure 3) have been provided for all cars to evacuate the passengers in case of emergency. The area is 734 mm x 544 mm. The cars are divided in to 4 basic areas, these being: a. Upper Saloon b. Lower Saloon c. The No.1 End Saloon d. The No. 2 End Saloon

    Trailer Driver Car The TDC (Figure 4) differs from the Motor Cars (MC) in as much as they are un-powered and have the Crew Cab positioned at the No. 2 End.

    Trailer Car The TC (Figure 5) is simply a non-motorised passenger Car that has no Crew Cab Locally operated twin glass sliding doors are located at both the No. 1 and No. 2 Ends to provide inter-car access for both passengers and Crew.

    Motor Car The MC (Figure 6) has the traction motors mounted at each of the axles on both bogies. Two locally operated twin glass sliding doors are located at both the No. 1 and No. 2 Ends to provide inter-car access for both passengers and Crew.

    Electrical

    General The electrical auxiliary system provides the electrical power to operate all electric loads on the Waratah train Set. Electrical auxiliaries consist of control and lighting power network to distribute control and lighting power to operate and control the Set.

    Control and Lighting Batteries Lead Acid GEL cell batteries are use for the battery banks. The batteries are fully sealed, non-spilling, can operate in any orientation, and are thus suitable for use for emergency illumination during 'vehicle rollover' situations. These batteries provide power to emergency loads/lights when no overhead 1500V DC power supply is available. Individual lighting batteries are provided in each Car to operate emergency ventilation and lighting even in the event of Car separation and / or rollover.

    Lighting System When there is no OHW voltage, the 110VDC lights will operate directly from the battery supply in that Car.

    Isolation Points Before commencing any type of Emergency or Rescue Operation where the train has sustained severe damage or an electrical hazard exists the relevant power supply source has to be isolated by authorised personnel. This will normally be in the form of RailCorp Electrical Operating Centre isolating the area and the train crew isolating the train if possible.

    1500V DC Supply The lowering of the pantographs on the train set will isolate the high voltage on the train. Lowering of the Pantograph will: a. Remove the 415V AC supply; and b. Remove the 240 AC supply

    110V DC Supply Isolation The 110V DC supply is derived from the train batteries. Once the Pantograph is lowered the battery charging is stopped but 110VDC is still available on the train via pre-charged batteries. To isolate the battery supply, battery isolator switches in each car are provided for each battery set. To isolate the 110V DC, rotate the Battery isolation switch handle to the OFF position.

    Communication System

    General The Waratah is fitted with a modern communication system which allows two way communications between crew and passengers and crew and external contacts. Some of the systems incorporated are: a. Passenger Emergency Intercom (PEI); b. Crew Intercoms; c. Public Address (PA); d. Speakers; e. Hearing Loop; f. Train Radio; and g. Global Positioning System (GPS).

    PEI A PEI allows on board passengers to communicate with crew members in case of an emergency. One PEI is mounted adjacent to one of the body side doors (Figure 7) in each of the end saloon with additional PEI located in the wheelchair areas (Figure 8) in the Motor cars.

    Public Address speakers are mounted in the upper and lower deck and end saloons. Public Address Speakers are also mounted externally to the car. A speaker is mounted in the crew cab roof for Train Radio and Crew Intercom audio.

    Surveillance System

    General The surveillance system on Waratah train set is composed of digital video cameras, digital video recorders and video display units. The Waratah Surveillance system has: a. Internal Cameras; b. External Cameras & Pod; c. Track Facing Cameras; d. Surveillance Screen (Video touch screen); and e. Digital Video Recorder.

    Internal Cameras Multiple Internal cameras are provided. There are two cameras in both the upper and lower decks (Figure 9) and two cameras in each end saloon. A total of 64 internal cameras are provided on a Waratah train set.

    External Cameras 1.7.3 1.7.3.1 There are 2 external cameras on each side of each car (Figure 10). In any

    direction of travel; one external camera faces forward, and one external camera faces backwards. Each external camera provides coverage of the complete car and half of the adjacent car. One camera is fitted near each passenger door on each car of the PPP set.

    Surveillance Screen Two CCTV monitor screens, one on each driver and guard side are provided in each crew cab (Figure 11). In normal operation the CCTV monitor (Figure 12) in the rear cab is used to observe the external CCTV cameras on the corresponding side of the car.

    Train Emergency Access or Egress

    General There are different types of doors installed on Waratah train. The doors used are: a. External Access Doors

    i. Passenger Body side Doors ii. Crew Body side Doors iii. Terminal End Emergency Access (TEEA) Door

    b. Internal Access Doors i. Crew Transverse Door ii. Passenger Inter car Doors

    All doors have an alternate form of release or opening for emergency purposes.

    Passenger Door Operation in an Emergency To open the door manually in case of emergency, two diagonally opposite passenger body-side doors (Figure 13) of each car are equipped with an Emergency Door Release (EDR) (Figure 14). These doors are additionally equipped with an EDR to enter the train from outside. During normal train operations, the EDR is available. The external and internal EDR act on the same mechanism and makes possible the opening of the door in case of emergency. The door mechanism is uncoupled mechanically so that the door can be opened manually. The emergency devices and can either be engaged (EDR available) or disengaged (EDR unavailable). The passenger will know if the emergency device is engaged if during the second stroke an increase of the force is noticed and notice that the door will start to unlock and unplug.

    EDR Operation Set Upright 2.1.3 2.1.3.1 The emergency door release mechanism (Figure 15) is equipped with

    spring return and have to operate the handle a maximum nine times to

    fully unlock and unplug the door. Starting with the second handle stroke the ratchet system is engaged and the doors will start unlocking and unplugging. After the third stroke the doors can manually be pushed out and slid open, the force to push out the doors is high. After the fourth stroke the doors are further unlocked and unplugged and can be pushed out with less force. The handle strokes five to nine will further unplug the doors and progressively reduce the force to push and slide the door open.

    EDR Operation Set on side The emergency door release is designed to permit unlocking and door opening using the EDR when the vehicle is on its side. When the car is on its side the ratchet will experience more load and will have to operate the handle a maximum twelve times to fully unlock and unplug the door. The entire twelve strokes will be required to be completed to ensure the doors are fully unplugged to permit the doors to be slid open.

    Crew-side Body-side Door Operation in an Emergency For train safety, access to the Crew Cab, via the Crew Body-Side Door, is controlled by means of Level 1 Access keys which are required to operate the doors. In addition, Emergency Door Release handles (EDR) for the Crew Body-Side Doors are operated under the same Access Level 1 and therefore are can not be operated by passengers.

    Crew Transverse Door Operation in an Emergency

    To open the Crew Transverse door manually in case of emergency, each door is equipped with an EDR. The EDR handle is located in the wall panel of the car body and can be accessed from the passenger saloon. Inter-car Door Operation in Case of Emergency To open the inter-car door manually in case of emergency, each door is equipped with an EDR on the saloon side (Figure 16) and the gangway side (Figure 17). Operating the EDR and opening the door will always be possible during any power outage.

    Passenger Inter-car Alternate Access Panels Inter car door removable panels provide an alternative route through to the next car in case of emergency evacuation if the inter car doors will not open.

    screen (Figure 18), above the existing door control panel. The panel is placed above the passenger door controls, door-side of the CCTV displays.

    An EDR Handle will not be active immediately after the EDR cover is opened, once a passenger opens the EDR panel, following set of actions occur: a. The EDR comes under CCTV surveillance b. The Passenger will be connected to the guard via the PEI The guard may instead use the passenger door controls to allow passengers to egress, rather than enabling the EDR. The guard is presented with an indicator (EDR cover open), to which two alternative actions are provided (Allow or Inhibit). If inhibited, the guard can then later choose to either Allow EDR. If the guard chooses allow, no further interaction is required, and the EDR operated indicator will illuminate once the EDR has been operated.

    TEEA Door The Terminal End Emergency Access (TEEA) Door (Figure 20) is located at the front end of each crew cab. The TEEA Door and Ramp are able to evacuate passengers at a rate of 600 people at each terminal end in ten minutes in train to track level detrainment. The TEEA Door:

    a. Can be opened from the inside of the cab by one person. b. Is unlocked by operating the TEEA Door Release and is automatically

    unplugged by the force exerted by a gas strut. c. Has a latch that engages automatically to latch the door open to

    prevent accidental closure. d. Has both internal and external TEEA Door Releases. The internal

    TEEA Door Release is readily accessed by the crew and passengers. The external TEEA Door Release is located under a cover with a Bi-lock such that only authorised personnel can gain access.

    e. Is compatible with the CityRail emergency stairs. f. The TEEA Door opening width will allow a 620mm wide stretcher.

    TEEA Ramp 2.3 2.3.1 Emergency egress/access is achieved with a TEEA Ramp. The TEEA

    Ramp is floor mounted and is located directly behind the TEEA Door. The TEEA Ramp is deployed by using the Emergency Ramp Release after opening the TEEA Door. Gas struts limit and assist self deployment allowing for the controlled lowering (Figure 21) of the TEEA Ramp. The Ramp Assemblys telescopic sections then deploy. When fully deployed, the TEEA Ramp is suspended from the car structure and supported at track. Emergency access from Set to Set can be achieved as the Terminal End of the sets has fold-out tread plates that unfold allowing for Set to Set detrainment.

    Wheel Chair Access Ramp Wheelchair Ramps are provided to enable wheelchair-bound passengers access to the train without having to exit their wheelchairs. Four dedicated wheelchair positions are provided in each Motor Car to accommodate disabled passengers within their own wheelchairs. There is a ramp stored in each crew cab (Figure 22).

    Fire Detection System 2.5 2.5.1

    The Fire Detection System (FDS) is based on smoke aspiration system. The Monitoring Display Units (MDU) in each crew cab provides all necessary information from all parts of the system. In each carriage two smoke aspiration systems are positioned. Each smoke aspiration system can monitor two sections and gives a localised alarm signal. The signals report the status of each system. Each signal is shown on the MDU with localisation of the monitored area (in case of fire) or the component (in case of fault). The display of fire alarm/indication is on the crew display unit.

    Every car is equipped with two Very Early Smoke Detection Alarm (VESDA) units to separately monitor the following interior zones (Figure 24):

    a. No.1 end saloon; b. Upper deck; c. Lower deck; and d. No.2 End Saloon / crew cab.

    The initial alarm indicates to the Crew that smoke has been detected in the car and that a fire may be imminent. A second stage alarm is

    activated if the smoke concentration reaches a level indicating that a fire has developed. On detection of a second stage alarm, the first response of the FDS will be;

    a. Shut down the HVAC of the concerned car; b. Enable the EDR of the crew transverse doors. The Door Control Unit

    will ensure that this happens only when the train speed is below 5kph; and

    c. Close any locked open Inter car doors. An additional smoke sensing unit is provided on the TDC to monitor fresh air drawn from outside the car to detect external smoke. In the event of detection of smoke outside the set, HVAC fresh air intake dampers will be closed remotely at the driver's discretion to prevent smoke from being drawn into the Set.

    Fire Extinguishers In case of fire, dry-powder fire extinguishers are located within every car to be used by the crew only. In the Crew Cabs, the fire extinguisher is located in a recess at the corner of the locker behind the guard's seat (Figure 25). On MC and TC Cars, the dry-powder fire extinguishers are mounted inside Vestibule lockers located beside the No. 1 End passenger body-side doors (Figure 26). To gain access to any fire extinguisher, a Level 1 Access key is required.

    Emergency Equipment Locker: Emergency equipment is stored in the Emergency Equipment Locker which is positioned behind the Drivers seat (Figure 27). All emergency equipment in this locker is used to safely recover or protect a Dead Train. The Emergency Equipment contains Audible Track Warning Devices which are pyrotechnic devices used for Train Emergencies.
