Solution Definitions For The Federation • Software Defined Data Center: The logical extension of server virtualization. In the SDDC, all resources, including network,

storage, and compute, are controlled by a software programmable layer (control plane) that is separate from the actual device (data plane) providing the resource. The SDDC encompasses a set of software and hardware technologies that can be used to implement the cloud operating model as defined by NIST.

• Platform as a Service: A federated architecture using technologies from Pivotal, VMware and EMC that allow for consumption of an application deployment environment (runtime, middleware, tools, data services, infrastructure) as a service, characterized by: integrated devops and data services binding, on- and off-premise Cloud application scaling, and cloud portability without changing the code.

• Virtual Workspace: Enabling the software defined workspace and allowing people to work at the speed of life. Our solution brings together hardware, software and services elements from across the federation, most notably VMware Horizon View, Horizon Workspace, XtremIO, VNX, and EMC Global Services.

• Data Lake: A documented, proven configuration designed to provide customers with a next generation information management, analysis, and application development environment. Our solution brings together hardware, software and services elements from across the federation, most notably Isilon, Pivotal, ViPR, EMC Global Services and PS@E.

• Security Analytics: A next-generation platform for Trust, which brings RSA security expertise together with EMC and Pivotal infrastructure. Security Analytics by RSA redefines Trusted IT for customers by combining traditional SIEM, system and network monitoring, digital forensics, incident response, and compliance into an industry-leading package using EMC storage and Pivotal big data solutions.

APPENDIX Demo Descriptions

11

Software Defined Data Center

• ViPR Discover and Create Storage Resources – A video demo showing how ViPR can provide an easy to use, self-service portal that allows storage arrays to

be easily added and storage resources easily provisioned

• ViPR Block and Object Storage for OpenStack – A video demo showing how ViPR can provide a software-programmable layer that allows OpenStack to

seamlessly provision block and object storage.

• SDDC_DEMO_ViPR_Demo3_4_vCAC – A video demo showing how ViPR can integrate into VMware vCloud Automation Center (vCAC) in order to

provide a software programmable storage management layer to this cross-domain orchestration platform.

• Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Demo – A video demo showing ease of use for provisioning and managing applications on an infrastructure built

using the Enterprise Hybrid Cloud (formally Enterprise Private Cloud/EPC) solution.

Demos

12

Platform as a Service

• “Hello EMCWorld” with PaaS/Pivotal CF – A simple Ruby/Sinatra application is written and demonstrated locally, and subsequently pushed to the

Pivotal Web Services Cloud live, so the audience can access it on the spot.

• PaaS Lottery – The Ruby/Sinatra application is modified to be interactive, with the audience entering their name, and

having the application generate a random number. The winning number will get a gift, and have their name tweeted by the application.

• Cloud Portability – The PaaS Lottery application will be moved to the VCHS Pivotal CF environment, where, with a new URL, the

audience can participate in the lottery again.

Demos

13

Virtual Workspace

• Horizon View XtremIO 1000 desktops – See how powerful and easy it is to scale your VMware Horizon View deployments to thousands of desktops in

a persistent/cloned desktop user experience

• Syncplicity – Access user data securely with IT control from any device, any time, anywhere via my personal cloud

Demos

14

Data Lake in a Box

• Helping a bricks and mortar retailer embrace the 3rd platform – This demo may be featured in Goulden’s keynote, and will also form the basis of one of the four discussions

at the Data Lake kiosk in the Federation Booth. It will show the business challenges the retailer was facing (spikes in returns during holiday seasons) and the solution we enabled for them.

• Data Lake in a Box – Futures Discussion – DLinaB – DAS Flavor – There will be multiple flavors of the DLinaB solution. One of them will be a solution that is designed for a

DAS environment. This will showcase the integration between Pivotal and ViPR technologies.

Demos

15

Security Analytics

• Building a Security Operations Center to Handle 3rd Platform Risk Management – A scripted demo showing how the next generation of operations management will benefit from a security

platform designed for big data analytics; storage arrays with software able to handle the velocity, variety and volume of threats.

• Using Security Analytics to Detect and Investigate Advanced Persistent Threats – A video or scripted demo showing how real-time discovery and response is made possible with the

integration of infrastructure that makes a big data security analytics platform, reducing risk to an organization by over 60%

Exploratory Analytics Production Analytics

• 2nd platform enablement, non-disruptive to existing infrastructure

• Unlock value from existing data • Bring Hadoop to the data • Cost avoidance, no need to build

dedicated HDFS cluster

• Web scale 3rd platform • Non-disruptively bring AWS “Shadow IT” apps on

premise • Cost optimized commodity platform

• Data driven applications • Use predictive analytics to generate

new revenue

• Unify 2nd and 3rd platform data into a Data Lake

• Exploratory analytics using combined 2nd and 3rd platform data

Data Lake in a Box This is how all the parts of the puzzle fit together…

The 2 minute DLA “trailer” On stage announcement

by Jeremy

High level DLA messages

The requirements

Developed through conversations with Jeremy Burton and Bill Raftery

The 20 minute DLA “movie” @ the Federation Booth

1. Moving from the second to the third platform

2. Grown Up Hadoop for the Enterprise

3. Choice, rather than lock in with vendors such as AWS

4. All data all use cases

The story of how we helped a traditional bricks and retailer embrace the 3rd platform and use predictive analytics to address the problem of a costly peak in returns during the holiday season.

The trailer finishes by encouraging people to come to the Federation Booth to have four 5 minute conversations…

1. The business challenge: Recap of the retailer’s challenge and an explanation that once you have all the data, the DLA can support multiple use cases. We share other examples e.g. insurance, security analytics, engineering and IT Ops. Booth Lead: Susheel Kaushik

2. A technology deep dive: A deep dive into the reference architecture and when you might use Isilon or ViPR and an explanation of the other components e.g. USS, PDD. Booth Leads: John C (OCTO), Priya L (ViPR), Ryan P (Isilon)

3. Services: The process we would follow should a client wish to start on the journey to a data lake i.e. Workshop, Proof of Value, Implementation Project. Booth Leads: Matt P (EMC GS), Matt R (PS@E)

4. A futures conversation: This bare metal shared storage flavor announced at EMCW is only the first. Other flavors are on the roadmap including DAS and virtualized ones. We actually show the DAS deployment of Pivotal and ViPR demo here. Booth Lead: Duncan L (Pivotal).
