MCC(Moot Court Competition),
EMCC).

Dear reader! This summer was one of the best in my life…and now you‘ll see why. We began our trip from the capital of our motherland- Kiyv. There we met another part of our ELSA Ukraine delegation and with aircraft noise ELSA spirit appeared in our minds! (dear freshers! If you don‘t know what does it mean – don‘t worry. It‘s impossible to ex-plain - you have to feel it!) First our plain brought us to the very beautiful city of Vien-na, unfortunately we had not time and visa to see it (We had time only to write in our FB profile: ―we are drink-ing coffee in Vienna‖)
The next plain finally brought us to lovely Zagreb where we found that Croatian and Ukrainian are very similar languages and we could easily explain what we wanted for sometimes without using English. And at last, thanks to kindly Croatian people we got to the last point of our accommodation- Zadar. Obviously it‘s an area of divine inspi-ration , it is indeed a land of singular natural beauty with these sea organ , parks, moun-tains, romantic beach-es. It‘s easier to paint this part of the world by the brush than by words… We came there first, so we had three days be-fore the beginning of
the ISLS on Human Rights and Globali-zation. I have to say we spent them very useful laying on the sun, drinking cock-tails, enjoying natural Croatian beauty and reading working ma-terials of course!) In all cafes people were very kind and when they found we are Ukrainian they called
us ―brothers‖ and brought us some free coffee or something else. It was really cool to be Ukrainian in Croatia! Our mentali-ties are a bit similar. May be Soviet Union left there some trace. And finally the ISLS on Human rights and Globalization began! The first person I met was Ana Roce- my S&C college and the president of ELSA Croatia as well. She came a day before the official beginning. I should say- she was one of the kindest per-son I‘ve ever met- she helped us in all our problems and tried to solve them at once in any time. And all the OC were very good organized. It seemed they weren‘t sleeping at all and working for our happiness! The first and the best party was National drink party, where each country brought its‘ National drink. May be you‘ve already guess which one b r o u g h t E L S A Ukraine…J Everyone tasted it with words : ― Bud‘mo gey!‖. But the

most unexpectedly drink brought Austri-an guys with so kindly name ―Burning Mo-zart‖ after which we couldn‘t even felt our throats . Surprising was Croatian drink with the similar effect called Rakija . But eve-rything finished very peaceably. We went to the club afterwards and we were dancing there till the sunrise . But we are ELSA peo-ple- next morning we were already on the lecture where we heard what human rights mean and general points of them: -Security rights -Liberty rights -Political rights -Social rights -Quality rights - G r o u p r i g h t s (minorities) and oth-ers. The next professor Filip Kuchta gave us a chance to take a part in the moot court where we could felt ourselves like lawyers. Everyone had his own role in it. I was a judge. After this moot court I understood that it isn‘t so easy to be a judge and to
make decisions as I seemed before. If you‘ve never taken part in moot court - try it. You have to feel it! Only there you can really understand all the seriousness of your future profession. With our last profes-sor Saša Madacki, we got to know how to build our speech, in what cases it has to be briefly and so on. In the end we did a few groups- each group had to prepare some speech on different topics. Our group w o r k e d o n ―Discrimination in Ukraine‖. Here I found that according to other European countries it isn‘t such a big problem for us. It can be two reasons for it: 1.We are very kind people ( very optimis-tic variant) or 2.We have much big-ger problems to de-cide, for example gaps. In the Constitution (the main law of Ukraine by the way) and a lot of economi-cal problems , which we unfortunately have. The true lays some-
where in the middle as usual. The conclusion I‘ve made after the aca-demic program that we have to work very hard to approach these problems. The other very important point- we have to pay more attention on the Euro-pean law. Unfortu-nately in our Universi-ties we don‘t spend enough time for these very important docu-ments and studies. I hope we‘ll do it to-gether! We stayed in Croatia
two days longer laying
in the sun, swimming
and drinking Mara-
schino and thinking
how it would be sad to
leave this wonderful
country of islands…

Have you ever crossed the
Ukrainian-Polish border by foot?
It’s very risky. Yes, because you
risk having your mood spoiled for
the whole day or even longer. But it
threatens only in case you’re not
going to visit ELSA Rzeszow.
Our trip started with the
stress and commotion at the pedes-
trian crossing of the Ukrainian-
Polish border but after that…
Frankly speaking, we didn’t ex-
pect… We didn’t expect everything
to be so cool! We’ve been greeted
very hospitably by the members of
ELSA Rzeszow. From a distance
we saw a sign reading “ELSA
Lviv” and people with our names
on their badges. It was cute. We
could see everyone trying to do
their best for everything to be excel-
lent. We have to note that they did
it. First, we give them +100500 for
the excellent organization and coor-
dination. We can judge from the
fact that every hour of our time was
itemized and spent according to the
agenda, though a little bit of free
time wouldn’t be redundant. Se-
cond, the integration took place
with the success of 100%. There
was no language barer because eve-
rybody perfectly understood either
English or Polish. Home-parties
were very sincere and each was
held with the ELSA-songs.
We will remember this trip
for a very long time thanks to the
enormous amount of impressions
from the cultural program. We had
an occasion to see the Rzeszow un-
derground. We found out that there
is a labyrinth under the central
square of the city at the depth of 10
meters, that has been used with dif-
ferent purposes in various times.
The citizens of the city hid there
during the hostile attacks. Long
time ago there were regular living
houses at the place of the under-
ground, their walls’ residues are

still here and there saved.
We were impressed with the
richness of the Potoc’kies’ castle in
Lancut. Each of us had already visit-
ed plenty of castles but nobody had
ever seen such luxury. The words are
not enough to describe all the beauty
and diversity of the castle’s adorn-
ment. If there were a competition in
anfractuosity and nicety of castles’
beautification, Potoc’ky would have
got the first prize.
We have been charmed with
the beauty of Solina: incredible land-
scapes that remind Switzerland. It
doesn’t feel like there’s an artificial
lake, which was created with the pur-
pose to build a pier, at all. The lake
fits the surrounding terrain very
much. We were surprised with the
fact that hermits had selected this
place for their ascetic living.
As for Rzeszow itself – it is a
very cute city. We had an impression
that it is the city of the young: there’s
a lot of youth in the streets, in the
shops and in the bars.
The social program was very
bright, too. We spend a good time
playing bowling and dancing at the
club “Sphinx”. The laser
paintball game at the “Laser
Arena” raised our team spirit.
We are happy that
ELSA gives us the opportuni-
ty to organize such institution-
al study visits. It’s a wonder-
ful chance either to get ac-
quainted with new people or
to discover many new things
about the people that you
know for a long time.
We are glad that we
have many friends in Rzeszow
now and that we can go to visit
them in any time. Poles were
very sincere and hospitable with
us. ELSA Lviv will do all the
best in order to make an unfor-
gettable visit for ELSA
Rzeszow.

Students‘ life…Without any doubts it‘s the best and most exciting time of life for most of us. It‘s walk-ing all night long, par-tying with roommates, endless hours spent in university and bunches of books on the table. Student time means something very happy, cheerful and inspiring. Crucially important is not to waist a single minute of your time and take as much as you can! Student life means freedom and self-esteem. It‘s when you have no limits and boundaries – just green light highway. Make the first step. Become European. Become ELSA. Taking my personal experience, I have to admit that ELSA be-came a significant part of my life. Everything you want and may need is here. Do you like law and can not live without conferences? ELSA Seminars and Confer-ence Area (S&C) is here for you – differ-ent topics, bunch of
European events. You are keen in Eng-lish and adore travel-ling, don‘t you? ELSA Study Visits will pro-vide you with many opportunities to get acquainted with 42 European counties. Are you interested in taking a breath catch-ing experience of traineeship in Europe-an country? ELSA Students‘ Trainee Ex-change Program (STEP) works here for you. Feel good in essay competitions and mood courts and the phrase ―All rise, the court is in session‖ makes you very excit-ed – ELSA AA (Academic Activities) will help you to reveal all your passion for the law and court system. There are no limits for ELSA possibilities. On behalf on the Na-tional Board of ELSA Ukraine 2011-2012 I officially inform you that we will put all our efforts to make this ELSA year very special for you! We renew our
marketing materials, make new interesting presentations, do our best to encourage this truly European feeling of respect for human dignity and cultural diversity in Ukrainian network. Many international Study Visits, seminars and conferences, round tables, moot courts, traineeships and trainings will be organized and held in the nearest future. Join the team, feel the spirit of the network! The recruiting period has officially started, all you need to do is just contact your local Secretary General and fill a simple form. Don‘t hesitate. Show yourself. Be one step ahead. I won‘t say much, but the things that you will get for sure – lots of fun and life long expe-rience. Yours faithfully, Juls

The decision to visit Estonia came to me, while I was participating at the ICM in Poznan. There were a lot of factors for that. First of all I want-ed to see the beauty of Baltic country and the development of Estonia, as one of the past members of USSR. Besides that I wanted to see how does the IPM is held, what to presidents do, share some ideas, g e t s o m e knowledge and fi-nally present the International Sem-
inar on Mediation, which will be held in Lviv. The preparation for the trip started in July, when my friend Danylo booked us tickets for the trip. The way we have cho-sen was probably the most cheapest you can find, but also the most hard one. So having packed all our stuff, and most importantly the posters for the seminar), our road begun. It took us 6 hours to get
from Lviv to Kiev, where we met Iryna, Da-sha and Yulia, who were so kindly to meet us. We waited a n o th e r 6 hours for the bus and the
fun started. Me, Danilo and Iryna, crossed three boarders (Russian, Belarusian, Esto-nian), ate all our provision for the week(lol) and spent 20 hours in the same bus. That‘s I must say, is what they call team-building.). Exhausted but happy we made it, we went on our foot to look for the hotel. We were almost the first to have arrived, so having met the others, we went to change. Me and Danilo were roommates with funny Czech guy—Vasik, who has teached us several important a n d s e r i o u s phrases and words in Czech) We also helped him to gain

some knowledge in Ukrainian. The IPM first par-ty was of course in our room, with a lot of Ukrainian national drink drunk. The party went well, not everyone remem-bered everything. That‘s the criteria of a good party. Isn‘t it?) The workshops on the IPM were pretty awesome, much more lighter and easier then they were on ICM. Niousha and his team (chair Daniel, vice-chair Jernej, two secre-taries Tino, Lisa and the punisher Daniel) made a re-ally good work, keeping people ac-tive, even after hard parties and even harder morn-
ings. I liked the discus-sions about the expansion and STEP. We will try to adopt them in Ukraine pretty soon. There was also a really cool training on moti-vation by Sylvie, the ITP trainer. I personally tried some things from it, and it does work. Everyone has tak-en something from this event. As for me, I will remember for a long-long time the last night par-ty—a trip to the beach, swim-ming in Baltics, sauna and gener-ally a very awe-some night. After the IPM,

The decision to visit summer
school ―Law Is Better Than
War!‖ in Romania was rather
spontaneous. I‘ve never spent
so much time in this country
before. Usually I‘ve been ob-
serving Romania through the
car‘s window while passing it by
during travelling somewhere
further.
I can‘t say that I had some spe-
cial expectation for the summer
school. But what I had gotten
would have exceeded every-
thing.
The venue of the summer
school was a

nothing you

with its landscapes and fresh

effective studying.
All the lecturers were really
competent in their fields of
knowledge. Communication
with them wasn‘t limited only
by lectures. The professors at-
tended events of the social pro-
gram as well so the participant
could have a talk with them in a
more informal atmosphere. The
Moot Court Competition that
took place in the end of lec-
tures‘ course was a very inter-
esting experience for everybody
and allowed to use the previ-
ously obtained knowledge.
Generally speaking, this sum-
mer school was organized on
the highest level. Not only a sat-
urated academic program was
prepared for the participants,
but also social.

Every night there were unforget-

to Bucharest with an excursion to
Romanian Parliament. We visited
Dracula Castle in Bran and were
guests at the Romanian night. Al-
so we went to the Adventure
Park in Brasov. During the sum-
mer school we were playing
paintball and running around the
town while Treasure Hunting. We
had barbeque and unsurpassed
Gala Bal. Most of these events
introduced Romania as a country
to us from very different sides. I
can say that it is a country of
contrasts, sometimes very harsh
contrasts. Yes, only in Romania
you may see endless sunburned
fields with corn and sunflowers
and dark green hills high in the
mountains with gothic towns.
I can‘t not to mention about the
inimitable atmosphere of this
summer school. I‘m once again
convinced that Elsa-people
belong to a special kind of
people. They can have fun
and enjoy Elsa-spirit but
they also care about their

This summer was the first
ELSAsummer for me.
That‘s why I started looking
for all the options ELSA
can propose. Lucky me,
there was a place where we
can combine both studying
and recreation – an Interna-
tional Law Summer School
in Croatia.
A nice town straight on the
seaside was called Zadar.
Our Ukrainian delegation
came all together couple of
days earlier in order to
spend some time just bath-
ing in the sun and swim-
ming in deep blue water.
Actually we still had a possi-
bility to do this every day.
So, the classes started, we
were really interested in
everything: our lectors we
Croatian and Bosnian –
great guys. They were not
simply reading text, but ex-
plaining every statement,
showing examples, making
workshops – all the ways to
make us interested in what
they were talking about.
What really surprised me
was the fact, that summer
did its part - and the atmos-
phere in the school could
let our professors spend our
free time with us, like they
are still students, and not
feeling any inconveniences.
The whole school was con-

ELSA-Ukraine
ELSA Lviv!
letter.

I don't know the
key to success,
but the key to
failure is to try to
please everyone
Bill Cosby
When people ask me:
―what can I get from
ELSA?‖ I usually answer:
―It will make your life
more complicated, you
won‘t have any spare time
and every day you‘ll wake
up with just one thought
―what can I do for ELSA
today?‖. ―And are there
any benefits of ELSA?‖ –
they ask me again. Then I
smile: ―Oh, there‘re some:
your life will become much
more interesting, you‘ll
contribute to making law
students happier and the
whole world a better
place!‖ ―So we are in‖-
take up they.
Who am I? – just an ELSA
addicted girl; who are they?
– enthusiasts whose mis-
sion is to struggle for reali-
zation of great idea, jointly
we‘re the initial group of
law students desiring to
create national group of
ELSA in Belarus.
Unfortunately, few stu-
dents know about ELSA
in our country, and those
who know usually think
that it‘s out of reach for
Belarusian students, but
we‘re going to change this
prejudice. Our motto is
―Local group of ELSA at
every law faculty till year of
2015‖. It‘s rather ambi-
tious plan for the country
where it‘s almost impossi-
ble to establish at least one
ELSA group. It‘s even not
the issue of bureaucracy
but a question of un-
grounded fear of some-
thing new. Imagine the
faces of registration au-
thorities in the USA if you
came to them saying: ―Hi,
we‘re a group of young
terrorists willing to estab-
lish local Al Qaida‖ Bela-
rusian officials react on
our project with such
hangdog looks as if we
were terrorists. It‘s not an
easy task to persuade edu-
cated and professional
people that ELSA is abso-
lutely non-political organi-
zation, existing for 30
years, uniting law students
in 42 countries and operat-
ing only for achievement
of the scope established in
its statutes. Anyway we
believe that ELSA digni-
fied vision is beyond any
superstitions, bureaucracy
and narrow-mindedness.
We‘d like to establish
ELSA since it is aimed to
realization of its purposes
in every possible aspect of
life. I was so impressed by
how much ELSA people
respect human dignity,
contribute to legal educa-
tion, foster mutual under-
standing and promote so-
cial responsibility that I‘d
like to share my experi-
ence.
Respect of human dignity
I came to the IPM Tallinn
this summer to promote
the project of ELSA Bela-
rus. The reputation of the
country as ‗the last dicta-
torship in Europe‘ made
me worried about the atti-
tude of presidents and rep-
resentatives of national
ELSA groups. But the
ELSA guys treated me as a
human being, a friend, a
law student, irrespective of

Contribution to legal educa-
tion
ELSA in Belarus is well
known among students
who have participated in
EMC2 moot court. Five
teams from Belarus have
already represented the na-
tional universities in this
competition. The fortunes
of the Belarusian EMC2
alumni vary: they are LLM
students of Harvard, Ox-
ford, Queen‘s Mary College,
MGIMO, they obtain PhD
degrees, work in Belarusian
embassies, international law
firms and state ministries.
Preparations to the EMC2
have considerably contrib-
uted to improvement of
their legal skills and person-
al abilities.
Fostering of mutual under-
standing
Mutual understanding in
ELSA fosters after a few
shots, then Ukrainian guys
are kidding in Ukrainian,
Belarusian girl is telling fun-
ny things in Russian, and a
French guy can sincerely
laugh at these jokes.
To be serious the concept
of mutual understanding is
very complicated to
achieve, a lot of internation-
al problems arise due the
fact that countries with dif-
ferent views do not want to
accept each other positions.
But it‘s not about ELSA.
We feel that International
Board, national ELSA
groups irrespective of their
rigid world-views in relation
to some issues managed to
understand the specific cir-
cumstances in which we‘re
creating our national group.
Such mutual understanding
resulted in overall support
of our initiative by presi-
dents and members of
Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Es-
tonian, Spanish, Finnish,
Latvian, Polish and every
national group present at
the International Presidents
Meeting this summer.
Promotion of social respon-
sibility
The initial group of ELSA
Belarus feels fully responsi-
ble for realization of the
project in our country. I‘m
proud of my teammates‘
desire to create a strong
community of law students
in Belarus, they are willing
next generations of law stu-
dents lead more diverse
academical, social and cul-
tural life than they had dur-
ing studies at the university.
Our initial team‘s hard work
in persuading authorities in
clarity of the ELSA idea,
sleepless nights of building
ELSA Belarus strategy and
attempts to put the statutes
of ELSA Belarus in con-
formity with strict demands
of national legislation testi-
fies that ELSA input to so-
cial responsibility of its
members and even non-
members.
Anyway, we believe that
every great idea should be
realized, we believe that in
the near future Belarusian
students could share ELSA
vision of a just world in
which there is respect for
human dignity and cultural
diversity.

National and local boards meeting became a tradition, taking
its place just after the elections of the new members to the boards ,
where each new member can get to know with whom they will
work in 2011/2012 and also get new knowledge.
For me this event was very important in my ELSA life. I want-
ed to see people to whom I want to be like…and first of all be-
come part of the team that develops and lives with ELSA!!!
The atmosphere at the meeting was very friendly and inspiring.
I wanted to do, to do everything at once! With a fire in my heart I
came home after this meeting!
Building program of the event was very well thought, for what
I want to say thank to OC from ELSA Uzhgorod! The guys have
thought all out beforehand, so it went very well! The academic pro-
gram was filled with really interesting trainings, after listening to
which each of us took a useful and necessary experience. I liked
the fact that the issues that arose during the training, left by them-
selves, underscoring the professionalism of the training. ELSA
songs, a lot of pizza, Hawaii-party ... all it brought us together!!
Night quest showed how a real team works,
even just during the game.
I think that the purpose of the event
was fulfilled at 100%. Everybody is ready
for the new ELSA year, ready to work, cre-
ate, and most importantly to do all this great
team fun! Good luck to all of us into getting
the good results!

Theme: Mediation. Another way to solve cases
When: 11-13 November 2011
Venue: Lviv
Aim:
Mediation is an alternate to judicial and much more efficient method of solving disputes by enlisting the ser-vices of a mediator who helps par-ties resolve conflicts. Using media-tion, parties can save both time & money, necessary for the case to be tried by the court, and friendly busi-ness or family relations. Besides, there are no winners of losers at me-diation. The goal of mediation is to find a solution which would meet the requirements of both parties. The event program was elaborated for people wishing to master the art of mediation and use modern ap-proaches to resolving disputes in their further work.
Event format - international educa-tional seminar.
Problematic - The culture of medi-ation is rather new and unfamiliar to the Ukrainian society. That‘s why a detailed study of mediation opportu-nities, its basic principles and condi-tions, its peculiarities and pitfalls, is of an exceptional importance for its further successful use at practice.
Topicality - Taking into account the peculiarities of the Ukraine‘s
judiciary, it is practically impossible to resolve a dispute quickly and stay on good terms. An administrative appeal, an appeal to the Prosecutor‘s Office, a trial require substantial expenditures of money, time and emotions which nega-tively influences the efficiency of natu-ral and legal persons‘ rights protection. Owing to this, people, wishing to re-solve disputes in a constructive way and stay on good terms with opposite parties, need to learn more about the alternative dispute resolution ways and implement them at work. It is media-tion which manages to resolve a dis-pute spending minimum of time and costs. Considering the rhythm of the modern world, this feature turns to be of primary importance.
Partners - Council of Europe, Lviv City NGO ―Tsentr Doslidzhen‘ Mistsevoho Samovriaduvannia‖, Lviv City Council, Ukrainian Centre of Me-diation, Ukrainian Centre of Agree-ment, TV channel.
Expected results: All the participants
would acquire the theoretical and prac-
tical skills of using mediation
in various life situation, learn
about the peculiarities of its
use in public and private rela-
tions and would be able to im-
prove the acquired skills at
workshops.
