Make your own sea bed

You will need Items from around the house such as blankets, towels, sheets, stones, plants, fish toys, boat toys, ‘treasure’ items, net, shells etc… Instructions

1. Place your towels/blankets/sheets down on the floor to make the sea bed.

2. Add your other items naming them and talking about what they are.

3. Take a photo of your sea bed picture.

Challenge – can you draw some of the characters from the Tiddler story and add them in. Use your sea bed and characters to tell the story. How much of it can you remember?

Under the Sea Dance Party Singalong! Have fun dancing and singing along to these Under The Sea themed songs. You might be able to think of some others too.

Learn to tie shoe laces

You will need: Ready made fish lacing card – draw a fish on the back of a cereal box and punch some holes in it. String/shoelace/ribbon Instructions:

1. Ask an adult to thread the laces through the holes in a criss cross pattern like in a shoe and leave two long ends for you to practise tying.

2. Take the two ends and put one over the other forming an x. 3. Tuck one end under to tie a knot and pull it tight. 4. Make a loop with one end of the lace. 5. Make a loop with the other end of the lace. 6. Cross the two laces over and then tie them in a knot. 7. Your laces should be tied. Keep practising until you can do it really easily.

Here are some other ways you could try:

Rubbish in the Ocean

Look at the pictures above and think about what they mean to you. What can you see in the pictures? How did those things get there? What will happen to the fish if this carries on? What can we do to stop this from happening? Pick one of the pictures and clean up the ocean by drawing it without the rubbish.

Water Transfer Activity

Equipment: bucket/washing up bowl, smaller bowls, cups, sponges, turkey baster/pipette, medicine syringes Instructions: Fill one of the large bowls/buckets with water and place another one a similar size a distance away. You might like to play in the kitchen or garden so that it is easy to clean up any spillages (there will probably be lots!). Set the challenge of transferring the water from one to the other using the equipment such as sponges, cups and medicine syringes. Further Challenges: Set a time goal too – can you transfer all of the water in less than 5 minutes? Predict which method will be the quickest and time them all eg. Sponges or cups Talk about what the problems might be with each method eg. Sponges were quickest but lost the most water on the way. Transfer to several different containers eg. Set up a line of containers that the water must go in on the way to the end container. Tip from one to the other and try not to spill any!

Page 9: Ellesmere College · • Make a hula hoop clock • Sing Hickory Dickory Dock Other learning Creative Arts: This week you are going to create your own sea bed. Take a look at some

Instructions: 1. Draw a large fish outline 2. Look at the symbols below for some ideas and decide which qualities you think

you have. You might think of some other words too. 3. Either cut out the symbols and stick them on your fish or write the words on your

fish. 4. Colour and decorate your fish. 5. Put your finished picture up somewhere so that when you see it it will remind you

of all the good things about yourself.

Parachute games:

Equipment: parachute, bed sheet, sari, large piece of material or large towel and a ball

Instructions: Warm up – Pretend you are a fish. Lie on the floor and stretch out like Tiddler. Pretend you are swimming. Kick your legs out behind you and stretch your arms out in front feel your body stretching and wriggling like Tiddler.

Main Activity – A ball in the storm

Use your material and pretend it’s the sea. Hold the corners and shake it up and down like waves. Say the words Fast waves, slow waves, big waves. Now put the ball in the middle and pretend it’s a boat. What will happen to the boat if the sea is calm? What about if it is rough? You could use music and change the waves to the sounds. How might the waves look to loud/soft music?

Outdoor learning – throwing and catching

Equipment: Ball Instructions: Go into your garden or find a space at your local park. Now using a ball, throw it to the person/people you are playing with. As you do this say one of the Tiddler characters names. How many different ways can you throw the ball. Try throwing overhead, under arm, between your leg, behind you.
