F RADIO AND TELEVISION PRODUCTIONS AND APPEARANCES

This section lists only a portion of the many known broadcasts. Due to World War II and the concomitant loss of records, details of many broadcasts are not available; moreover, the specifics of a number of foreign broadcasts are not available. For instance, numerous short stories were read on the air in translation in Austria, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland. In 1943 Bowen wrote a Weekly Book Review for broadcast on the BBC Overseas Chinese Service. Details for only three remain. Through correspondence it is known that her works were broadcast on CBS and NBC radio and television, but details of these broadcasts are not available to the compilers.

The first part of this section lists Bowen's works as adapted for radio or television. Unless stipulated, all productions were adapted by Bowen. When adaptations were made by others, they were always approved by Bowen before production. Commentaries about Bowen or reviews of her work are included in this first part of the section. The second part lists Bowen's appearances on radio or television and is known to be incomplete. Under both Productions and Appearances items are listed chronologically.
