CLIENTGoogle Headquarters LOCATIONLondon, UK

Google approached architects / Interior designers Penson for the design of a non-conventional office layout. The design was to focus on employee flexibility and personal space. With this in mind Google sought a fresh, modern and vibrant environment. Within the playground of Google’s UK hub lies a worklife full of games, toys, free massages, food, drink and corridors that could stand up to the studio set of Star Trek’s Starship Enterprise.

Dubbed ‘L4’, the space was built as the London office’s engineering floor which houses around 350 Googlers. It has all the essentials from desks and chairs to 19 flavours of coffee and billiards. Conference spaces offer multi-level seating and video-conferencing technology. Employees are encouraged to create inspirational ideas only enhanced by these informal working practices.

It was our Linnea Elevate range that caught the eye of Google and it soon became the desking flagship of their new offices. Elite provided 320 fully wire-managed height-adjustable desks and dividing screens all finished in white MFC complemented by a striking orange metal trim allowing the desking to flow continuously into the corridor coach lines. Linnea Elevate won a first place award for Workplace Systems Furniture by FX Design Awards International and provides a generous height variation of 695mm to 875mm for users wishing to adjust their desk surface.

Datel Interiors, based in Dunfermline, were appointed to supply and install 600 workstations for the new Sky Studios Building at BSkyB’s headquarters in Osterley. The architecture of the building dramatically expresses world-leading sustainable technology. To build on this ergonomic environment, Elite’s Linnea range was selected to provide staff with stable workstations as well as accommodating the storage of multiple data cables.

CLIENTHM Revenue & Customs LOCATIONNottingham, UK

Working with one of our interior fit out partners we were tasked with assisting them to provide this government department with a modern office working space that would embrace new ways of working and incorporate diverse working environments.

The new desking solution needed to be both a flexible and diverse product to incorporate the client’s needs. The ideal suggested product was the Progress desking that enables users to adjust the height, to either sit or stand at the desk. Initially the client was hesitant, so we arranged for a sample of the product to be delivered and installed into their existing office space.

A workshop was then carried out with all staff engaging with the product, so they could see the benefits of the system. This also enabled us to receive feedback from the users to ensure the final product and accessories would match their requirements. The Progress Sit Stand was an all-round success and became the focal point of the project.

The final office was populated with multiple breakout working areas, various meeting spaces, areas for confidential discussions and individual workspaces away from the main working areas.

CLIENTWorldPay LOCATIONManchester, UK

WorldPay sought after a new working area that broke away from the conventional banking workspace style. Elite worked in partnership with interior designers TSK to develop an end product that was both practical and aesthetically pleasing as well as pioneering.

The brief was to create a working environment that allowed for flexible working. Staff wanted to benefit from an area that would allow them to have as much or as little space required on each day, task depending. WorldPay sought a continuous look so that staff did not feel confined to a particular desk. This would also allow for staff numbers to be increased without making existing users feel that they were losing their desk space. Additionally, the furniture needed to allow for seamless integration of I.T. equipment that would not be limited to a single workstation area.

Before we manufactured a working prototype, we created the product as a 3D model. This also allowed us to make amendments and tweaks to the formation of furniture and significantly reduce the time from concept to the signed-off product. Once approved, we produced a physical mock up for them to trial. The project was a success and our concept was placed into the new premises in Manchester accommodating 260 staff.

CLIENTFocus School LOCATIONStoke-by-Nayland Campus, Colchester, UK

During the 2016 summer holidays a large refurbishment was carried out at Focus School Stoke By Nayland Campus.

A dramatic transformation took place in the school which included reconfiguration of the classroom layouts to embrace Self Directed Learning (SDL), new furniture throughout the school, a new staff hub area and much more. As part of a new SDL program, the classrooms have been split into collaborative zones, semi-collaborative zones and focused zones, which have enabled the students to choose their learning environment depending on how they learn best.

CLIENTOdyssey Systems LOCATIONStockton-on-Tees, UK

In order to modernise their working environment and create an impact for visiting clients, Odyssey engaged with Elite to meet their required specification.

After initial meetings, it was decided that the Progress range of bench desking was the best solution due to its contemporary feel and features, such as the full gas lift height adjustment. These were teamed with the Mix chair, offering a range of ergonomic functionality and the option to move away from a traditional black mesh look.

To further enhance the feel the client went for the Retreat booth seating and leather Cascara high back chairs with deep buttoning. The finishes consisted of white for the desktops and frames, the screens were finished in white metal work with blue acrylic panels and white frames for the Mix chairs complemented with white leather seat pads and blue mesh. The breakout seating consisted of a mixture of blue and white leather.

Overall, the furniture married well with the ultra-modern technology that was also being installed, creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment that really represents this brand to the highest standards.
