At times of financial constraint, securing support to attend National, European and International congresses/conferences has become increasingly difficult. The BCS, through support from the British Heart Foundation and industry has been able to provide some travel bursaries to attend the BCS Annual Conference but is now able to extend support to attend certain congresses/conferences through its Travel Bursary Scheme. Eligibility for Travel Bursary Scheme The scheme is open to all members of the BCS who fulfil the criteria below : Consultants and other members presenting at ACC/ESC or Trainees at ST3 level or above, presenting (including posters) at BCS/ACC/ /ESC or Allied professionals (including non-Consultant members) attending the Annual Conference of the BCS Applications Applications for a travel bursary should include a completed application form together with a supporting statement and Affiliated Groups

Travel Bursary Scheme

IntroductionThe British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) is uniquely placed to facilitate, coordinate and deliver high quality education for its members. At times of financial constraint, securing support to attend National, European and International congresses/conferences has become increasingly difficult. The BCS, through support from the British Heart Foundation and industry has been able to provide some travel bursaries to attend the BCS Annual Conference but is now able to extend support to attend certain congresses/conferences through its Travel Bursary Scheme.

Eligibility for Travel Bursary SchemeThe scheme is open to all members of the BCS who fulfil the criteria below :

Consultants and other members presenting at ACC/ESC or Trainees at ST3 level or above, presenting (including posters) at

BCS/ACC/ /ESC or Allied professionals (including non-Consultant members) attending

the Annual Conference of the BCS

ApplicationsApplications for a travel bursary should include a completed application form together with a supporting statement and confirmation of presentation. For allied professionals to attend the BCS Annual Conference, a statement indicating reason for/benefit of attending the conference should be provided. Completed applications should be emailed to [email protected]

All successful applicants will be notified in writing.

Travel Bursary Scheme PanelThe award panel will include the following or a nominated deputy:

President of the BCS Vice President Education and Research, BCS Vice President for Training, BCS Vice President for Corporate and Financial Affairs, BCS Chair of Academic Committee

The selection process will be by a scoring system based on merit.

Number and value of BursariesA number of bursaries will be available each year, in each category, depending on the budget available. The maximum number of bursaries to be awarded in each category, each year, will be agreed in advance by the panel in conjunction with the CEO of the BCS. Each bursary will be awarded on merit and at the discretion of the panel. The decision of the panel is final. The bursary will be a contribution towards the cost of attending the congress/conference (travel, accommodation, registration).

For BCS Annual Conference a bursary of up to £250 will be awarded For European meetings a bursary of up to £500 will be awarded For International meetings a bursary of up to £1000 will be awarded.

Terms and Conditions1. Original receipts must be submitted within 2 months of attending

congress/conference.2. Other financial support received for attending the congress/conference must be

declared. 3. A successful applicant will not be eligible to reapply for a bursary for 2 years. 4. The names of all those awarded a bursary will be published on the BCS website

www.bcs.com. 5. Trainees and Allied Professionals receiving a bursary will be asked to submit a

report on the benefit gained in attending the congress/conference, for publication on the BCS website www.bcs.com.
