Elgood & Sons Ltd is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England.

Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London. In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

The North Brink Brewery stands on the north bank of the River Nene, in the centre of the Cambridgeshire town of Wisbech. The classical Georgian facade presents a sense of history to the world, and over the years Elgood’s has remained loyal to traditional brewing methods, whilst making important technical advances to enable the brewing of a complete range of beers to cater for all of today’s tastes.

Elgood’s has long been a staunch supporter of the traditional British ‘tied house’ system, and currently operates an estate of 36 public houses all within a 60-mile radius of the Brewery, and embracing parts of neighbouring Lincolnshire and Norfolk in addition to its Cambridgeshire heartland.

The company has also established a booming ‘free-trade’ business throughout East Anglia, and beyond this, wholesalers transport Elgood’s beers nationally.

Black Dog | 3.6% ABV

An award-winning cask conditioned traditional dark mild. Well balanced malt and hops gives a pleasant aroma and taste, with splendid roasted bitter flavours.

Black Dog is a traditional dark mild at 3.6%ABV. It has many CAMRA awards to its name and is a well-known brand in the free-trade. The beer is well balanced with a full roast flavour.

The use of Crystal malt, roast barley and liquorice gives a deep underlying flavour balanced with Fuggles hops as the sole variety.

Cambridge Bitter | 3.8% ABV

Malty and fruity aroma with a satisfying flavour and bitter finish, Cambridge Bitter is the main brand beer at an ABV of 3.8%.

A mid brown bitter with a good balance of malt and hop character makes this beer a pleasing session drink. The finest pale ale malt (made from Maris Otter barley) is blended with Malted Wheat, invert sugar and a small amount of roast barley, to ensure consistent colour.

Hops used are English Fuggles and Challenger, a blend that gives a full hop character to the beer.

Golden Newt | 4.1% ABV

Pale in colour with prominent hoppy palate and full flavoured finish, Golden Newt is a pale session bitter of 4.1% ABV and 4.6% ABV in bottle.

The beer has a prominent hop character; a blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade has been used in the recipe to bring the delicate hop flavour and aroma to the fore. The use of Cascade gives a pleasing citrus aroma.

Finest pale Maris Otter malt has been used to provide a full flavoured beer. The lavish use of late hop dominates the malt flavour and results in a satisfying pint.

Coolship Fruit | 5% ABV

This unique English style sour beer, brewed in the artisanal manner at North Brink Brewery has been blended with Raspberry and a hint of Blackberry. The beer has a purple colour and a sparkling finish. The sweetness and rich berry flavour is off-set by the smooth sourness of the Coolship Ale, the hedgerow fruit aroma is prominent and with soft fruity tones.
