Potentate’s MessageGreetings Nobles, As we enter into the summer season, our activities also continue to gain momentum with parades, civic appearances, and Shrine sponsored events. Plans for our June ceremonial on the 18th, 19th, and 20th, in West Branch is all set so please add our parade to your summer schedule of events. The parade will be on the 20th at 1pm. It would be great if all units could participate. It has been some time since we have had a full unit parade to show off our Shrine talents and pride. Lets do it this time!! All informa-tion on the ceremonial and golf outing can be found in this issue

of the Arabian Knights. Keep searching for new candidates at the special one time initiation fee of only $62.00!!. Can’t beat that!! May was a very busy month and Lady Dee and I would like to thank all who attended the Potentate’s Ball. It was wonder-ful to see so many guests and many old friends. We also would like to thank the Ball committee for all their hard work in making this affair one to remember, thank you so much. Thanks also to the Fenton and Capital City Shrine clubs for their hospitality during our recent visits. If we have not made a visit to your club or unit, hang on, we are in the process of making our rounds and hope to see you soon. OurtelemedicineprojecthasfinallybeenapprovedbytheChicagoHospitaland we are moving forward on this most important issue. We have cleaned out the storage room and liquor locker room in anticipation for remodeling and the placement of equipment when we obtain them. If your club or unit had items stored in those rooms,pleaseseemeorPastPoteRonStanleyaswetriedtofindplacesforanythingwe moved. Many thanks to HPP Bob Swartwood for arranging to have a group of local veterans assist us with the “heavy work”. Also our Shrine work crew who really busted their you-know-whats on this project. Thank you so much fellow nobles for your dedication. As I close, it is with an emotional good by to our transportation director, Bill Harper. Bill has decided to move on and start preparing for 2017 when he will serve youasPotentate.Hewillbeadifficultpersontoreplaceandwewillmisshisprofes-sionalism and dedication to our cause. Nobles, please attend as many Shrine events as you can, remember those who are unable to attend our functions. Attend your Blue Lodges and always remember, we are all one.

It’s good to announce that over 135 Nobles have paid since April 15th. We have some exciting news here at Circus Park; The Chicago Hospital has approved Elf Khurafeh Shrine to participate in their pilot program of Tele-medicine with our patients that only need a short (5-20 minute check-up). This will take place at Circus Park in a remodeled room with special Telemedicine equipment. Total cost of this project at C.P. is expected to be near $39,000. $29,950. for Telemedicine equipment only and the rest to remodel and fur-nish the room. Any Unit, Club or Nobles or Ladies who would care to donate tothisprojectpleasecontacttheElfKhurafehShrineoffice.Thecostoftheequipment is considered to be 501(c) (3) and would be tax deductible. This project will save our Hospital Transportation Fund approximately $100,000.00, each year and many hours of transporting Our Kids to the Chicago Shriners Hospital. This is to take place very soon. Now Jim just plays his music at a few occasions per month, just enough to keep him busy. He was nice enough to volunteer to play at the meeting and it

Shriners CupThe purpose of this trophy is to promote fraternal relations and travel among the four Shrine Temples in Michigan – Moslem, Saladin, Elf Khurafeh and Ahmed. A trophy is to be established, and passed amongst Temples, as a reward for sharing in the other Temples activities. The trophy will be de-signed, and initially reside at Elf Khurafeh Temple, at Circus Park in Clio, Michigan. Visiting Temples may take the trophy at the following Temple events:

The visiting Temple with the most nobles present at an above stated event will win the trophy, and display it at their Temple until that Temple’s next event.Qualifyingattendance: aminimumoffive(5) nobles, and including two (2) Divan members. In the case of a tie, the following tiebreakers will

be applied: 1. Highest ranking Divan member

2. Most Divan members 3. Most Ladies accompanying Nobles

4. Highest ranking Divan Lady accompanying her Noble in the case of no visiting Temple meeting the qualifying attendance, the trophy will remain with

the host Temple until its next event.

They found this trophy at Saladin Temple and borrowed it. The trophy was given to Saladin Temple by Elf Khurafeh Patrol in 1914. over 100 years ago. This has sparked an idea about starting a state-wide traveling trophy

with the Michigan temples.

PILOT TELEMEDICINE MAY BECOME A REALITY Ourofficepersonnelhasbeenworkingonthisprojectforaboutayear.Itinvolvescommunications with the Chicago Shriners Hospital through telephotograph and medical eval-uation transmissions. The purpose is to save trips to the Chicago Hospital on follow-up cases. It costs approximately $460.00 for a trip to the hospital. This telemedicine program would save EK Shrine thousands of dollars each year. The storage room off the main hall has been emptied out and needs to be remodeled. The Arab Patrol has donated $5000 to help with this transformation. Therefore, we are looking for volunteers to help; we need painters, carpenters, electricians, and plumbers.
