UV Sterilization Mechanism
• Depending on the wavelength, ultraviolet light can usually be divided into long, medium and short wave ranges.
• It’s the short-wave ultraviolet light that kills bacteria. The sterilization effect is the strongest with the wavelength of 250-275nm (UVC).
• When the handrail is running, the UV light on the sterilization device is used to kill the bacteria on the handrail. Sterilization rate ≥99%
• The sterilization device is concealed on the return side under the handrail to ensure passenger safety.
• Multiple sterilization devices can be installed on the same escalator, based on the rise of the unit.

Ultraviolet can be divided into long, medium and short according to the wavelength. The short wave ultraviolet has the bactericidal effect, which is generally 200~275nm and we call it UVC. Among the range, the 250nm~275nm range is the best waveband for sterilization. The principle of the UVC sterilization method is to damage the molecular structure of microbial cell’s (bacteria, virus and other pathogens) DNA and RNA.

***According to the length of the handrail at 28m and the running speed at 0.5m/s, one running cycle of the handrail is 56s and the residence time of the irradiation area is 0.2s. Since the cumulative effective sterilization time is 1min, escalator needs to operate in 16800s to achieve the abovementioned sterilization effect, about 4.6 hours (all the above calculations are derived from theoretical data).

UV STERILIZATION MECHANISM
• UV lamp is a kind of light that is invisible to the naked eye. The wavelength of the light wave below 380nm is called UV.
• A wavelength below 380nm is called UV.
• In the natural sunlight, UV-A accounts for about 98.1%, UV-B accounts for 1.1%, and UV-C is almost absent due to absorption by the ozone layer.
