P o r t f o l i o
One hundred plus oneObjective: Using like-multiples together with an additional single type “stitch”; create ‘works’ that highlight or exploit conditions discovered through the analysis construct of the material chosen to work with.
“100” Material: Cassette Tapes
“+1” Material:The tape within the
cassette tape
System: Connect each cassette tape
together by tying them through the
holes in the plastic. It naturally started to
spiral around itself creating a snake
effect.
Close up of process of assembly and
system.
B o d y m a n t l eObjective: Create an extension of the body that will be able to be worn and express an intention. The material of the work is to be constructed from the multiples of a single object, like the ‘100 + 1’. The +1 will be a stitch, bringing structure and life to the construction.
I chose to fold the cupcake liners in
half in order to create a more solid
appearance with less large holes
exposed between connections.
Material for “100”: Cupcake liners
Material for “+1”: Twist ties.
Paper and wire are both very malleable,
giving them the ability to wrap
around and form to the body while holding together
strongly for freedom of movement.
P l a n e B l o c k Objective: Exploit, highlight or otherwise explore some aspect of a cube in form and volume from line to plane.
First iteration critique: Clear defi-
nition of cube, good use of insertion. Moving forward,
simplify.
Material: Cardboard
Second iteration critique: Defines cube well, some
pieces look random. Expose interior
more.
Material: Chipboard
Final: Employs techniques of insertion and
movement in order to define the
exterior cube walls.
Material:Museum board
Gouache painting: Elevation views, depth portrayed through different
tones of gray from black to white.
Gouache Painting: Three section cuts, one on each axis. Different shading
techniques applies to create depth.
B a l a n c e C u b e Objective: Construct a 12” cube that is defined by five elements, all balanced on one four square inch ‘leg’.
First task: Using a list of vocabulary
words, design three small scale models using lines. Here, I
used to words cadenced,
centralized, and linear.
Material: Balsa wood
Second task: Using a second list of
vocabulary words, design three small
scale models using planes. Here, I focused on the
words interlocking, binary, and inserted.
Material: Chipboard
Third task: Using the same or different
words, design three small scale models
using a combination of planes, lines,
or volumes. Here, the vocabulary I focused on was
inserted, cadenced, linear, and binary.
Final: Using the previous models, create a design
within a cube. It can only stand on one ‘leg’ with a surface area no larger then four square inches at the base. It must be constructed by
five elements using lines, planes or
volumes.
Material: Poplar
Final Gouache: From an
axonometric view of the final balance
block, create an abstract line
painting.
A r m a t u r e Objective: Using an existing design idea of an object, create a form to display that object which uses a similar language. It must speak to specific moments within the original composition.
First task: Construct a design that utilizes negative space well.
In preparation to pour plaster.
Material: MDF
Second Task: After putting foam shapes
into a hollow MDF cube, pour plaster into it to make the
negative space come to life.
Material: Plaster
Armature final: After recognizing specific moments within the composition, design a structure to hold
and present the plaster in the best
way possible.
Material: Basswood
A d o b e s k i l l sObjective: Improve upon my Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign skills in order to master the programs.
First Project Task:From observing the exterior of a
mausoleum, design the interior.
Second Project Task:From observing the armature, create an abstracted piece of
art as one imagines. Process included
drawing the elevation of my armature, filling
in the poche from that, then creating a
pseudo structure with interior spaces
Third Project Task:Design and plan a presentation board
for our insertion project. Mine
included a triangular shaped suspended chair waiting area within the Linder Center on UC’s
campus.
